The Supreme Court isn't going to look at the disagreement between Concord and Canadian Metropolitan, so the case is now (finally) resolved. 750 Pacific is now called Expo Gardens, and they apparently intend to launch Phase 1 soon. We'll see if Concord move forward with their plans.

So I guess this means we should expect the remains of the plaza to be cleared before the end of the year?

That seems unlikely. They presumably will have to sell a fair number of apartments to get the project going. The days of lineups to get first chance to buy a unit at Downtown prices seem to have passed, at least for now.

Phase 1 is on the western side of the site, which has already been cleared, so they may not need to do any more demolition until they get to the later phases.

Here's a great overview pic of the Plaza of Nations site from TrafficTrish.
Obviously from this past spring.

750 Pacific Blvd mentioned in this Business in Vancouver (BIV) Nov 2, 2022 article:

CMP, meanwhile, is angling to start building a terraced 28-storey mixed-use building as part of its first phase of redeveloping the Plaza of Nations, thanks to the city’s development permit board on June 27 approving a conditional development permit.

CMP's tower is expected to have 646 condominiums, 171 social-housing units and commercial space.

The property has new owners who plan to submit an entirely new proposal.

Quote:
Vancouver’s Plaza of Nations, a prominent but largely derelict waterfront parcel, has been sold for an undisclosed sum. The price is believed to be several hundreds of millions of dollars.

...

Now, a representative for the new owner says with city council’s relaxing of view cones, it plans to propose a new vision with condominiums, rental homes, commercial and retail space, a boutique hotel, marina, public amenities and waterfront access.

The new owner is called Northchild Group. It is little known here and has no track record of development in Vancouver.

...

In 2022, after Oei’s Canadian Metropolitan Properties Corp. finally won a seven-year legal battle with Concord Pacific over the Plaza of Nations property, Oei said he wanted to “build something iconic” there, to give back to “this city I love.”

But less than two months later, corporate filings show, Oei ceased to be a director of Canadian Metropolitan, as did his daughter, Theresa, and another associate, Moy Foong Lum. Three new directors joined the company: Jian Hong Hou of Delta, Miao Yang of West Vancouver and Qing Zhu of Vancouver.

In 2023, the remaining two longtime directors left, Vancouver lawyer James Henshall and Oei’s brother-in-law, Yow-Lin Chu.

That left the newcomers, Hou, Yang and Zhu, as the sole directors.

On paper, the property’s owner remained the same: Canadian Metropolitan Properties Corp. But the people behind that corporation, which owns no other real estate in B.C., had changed.

...

B.C.’s Land Owner Transparency Registry lists Weichang Yang of Hong Kong as the interest holder in the Plaza of Nations property. Yang had been a minority shareholder in Plaza of Nations since 2017, the Hong Kong newspaper The South China Morning Post reported in 2019.

Canadian Metropolitan director Miao Yang is Weichang Yang’s daughter. Corporate records list Miao Yang as the only director of two other B.C. companies — Northchild Developments and Northchild Holdings.

Can a mod fix the typo in the title.

I should have spent more time scouring the Van Councillor calendars Zhou met with Northchild in March 2024 and Meiszner April.

EDIT: Before I read the entire article..

Also 2nd + Main was with Create Properties who are the guys in the fight with Peterson over Burnaby Lake Village. Though the 2nd and Main website lists both Create Properties (lead) and Northchild as the "team"

The rezoning for 2nd & Main was in 2015, when the site was owned by a numbered company owned by the Aquilini Group. Presumably they sold the site (or rather, the numbered company), to Create and Northchild.

NICK PROCAYLO/The Vancouver Sun

If you look out the window on the left, nearly 40 years later the Expo 86 VIP Monorail station is still there.

Oh it was next to the trees in the parking lot facing Pacific Blvd. You can see the cutout where the tracks would have gone. There's another cutout on the other side of the building above the medical clinic.

On the other side of the building where it weaved through the covered plaza.

I guess it's safe to assume that BC Place will no longer be walled off with awkward squat buildings with the viewcone amendments. Taller towers, more open space and preserved views of the iconic stadium roof will make for a much more interesting skyline.

Wow, that's big news!
Hopefully the redesign will still preserve views of BC Place's Northern Lights Display.

I mean if they combine all the density into a single tower but with two towers it'll be tough to maintain any view from Olympic Village

It would be lousy if the new owner mimics what Concord is proposing next door without a clear sightline.

Go back to the version with the opening in it. (30 storeys in these renderings)
