That's hilarious, Mike. It looks like we shot almost the same photo from the same spot just a few hours apart!

It sure is taking them awhile to build the base part.

Well at least one project stalled, otherwise we wouldn't have one to talk about.

I corrected your quote above. An not that anyone here would know, but it's going to be a lot better than all the other hotels.

Sarcasm aside, has construction really been stalled?

It looks like they should be starting the actual tower soon. From the elevations, it looks like they are finishing up the 6th and last level of the parking garage.

Looks like the garage base is finished and they are transitioning into the tower now. It should start to rise pretty fast.

The Bowie is mostly apartments but will have 2 floors of office space.

According to Endeavor's marketing of the office component of The Bowie, the delivery date is September 2014. So they have a way to go. Below is a screen grab of their marketing flyer (located here: http://www.endeavor-re.com/property/office/the-offices-at-bowie/ ).

It's also important to note that the base of the building will be wider than the tower. So at least the people who lease apartments on the upper floors of The Monarch won't be looking AS closely into someone's window/balcony. The architect conveniently left the neighboring buildings off of the rendering, but you can see from the awesome construction photos Kevin, LoneStarMike and in particular OtherKevin and CorvairKeith have posted that those buildings are going to be very close together.

Looks like we are going to lose most of the Monach view from that vantage point including the lighted roof.

We're getting some nice residential density at a dizzying pace downtown.

So, you don't think they tried to buy it? Can't imagine a rendering that didn't wrap the corner along 5th.

Exactly. This is a makeshift bar, that's hardly been around, at best. That petition with "Austin Icon" is a laugh. I'll give them credit for putting the least amount into that property, and squatting on it, for bigger reasons than giving a venue to local artists.

As far as "safe" is concerned, back to my point, even if that tiny piece of land never goes to Endeavor, I could see it changing into something more upscale than that. For a price, of course.

All of these update shots are going to get funnier, the closer completion comes. TTBIT sure will dovetail the Bowie, LOL.

It really is an odd place for a bar. Doesn't Whole Foods have a bar? It's not really the kind of neighborhood around downtown where a bar makes a lot of sense It's near the hike & bike trail and kind of tucked away from the center of downtown's action. If anything The Bowie rising next to it is going to help its business and make it more legitimate. I know that if I lived at The Bowie I'd be visiting the bar since it would be extremely convenient.
