Sometimes other people hold opinions which we are unable to comprehend, yes.

The built versions, so far, as seen on the previous page lead me to prefer Central.

In the render comparison you have shown, the Toronto version does look better than its current form, however.

doesn't feel like it would take another year to finish since the lower floors drywall and fixtures seem to be in already

Looks a bit like the massing of the Hotel Vancouver - with a twist.

I love it. It's like someone took a city district, reached in, and stacked one bit on top of the rest. It's fun and it looks good and it's smart urban design (mixed use by transit) AND it's in a wonderful location. What's not to like?

But maybe I'm a cheap date because I happen to like buildings...

It [only] occurred to me as I drove south on Main St. that Central will block a lot of mountain views from Lido (as well as the Burger King site)

I'm not too worried about BK site views, since it's about to be knocked over for more condos with better views (for a while).

as for the Lido ....

I was driving down Main street this morning and while Central is quite a behemoth, between the social housing building at 2nd & Main and the Vancity building, a lot of the mountain view was already blocked. The view cone from 8th & Broadway affects the east side of Main, not the west. Central looks like it is only one floor (plus rooftops/mechanical) from being topped out as well.

Wish I had the scaffold contract on this one.

The massing of this project feels over-bearing versus other properties in the area. Renderings certainly didn't convey that to me, but seeing it in person, wow.

Not sure whether it has been commented on yet, but it appears that the columns for the sky bridge are in two neat rows, instead of a more irregular pattern depicted in the renders. I think it will look pretty clean, though I am curious about how the columns will be treated. Will they be bare concrete with a smooth polished-looking finish straight out of the forms? Will it be polished after the fact? Will it be clad in metal panels as appears to be the case in the original renders? Will it be painted?
