Just noticed they have the first piece of cladding in. Hooray it finally will have some glass!

Nice to finally see some glass. The glass should really start going fast now, especially now that winter is on its way out....other than today of course

That last photo update was great. A lot of great angles. The glass that was noticed in one of the photos went up about a week and a half ago. I resisted the temptation to post it here because I figured that they were just doing a fitting. There is one other pane up further around the building. The crews will probably spend more time shoveling today's 10 cm to 15 cm of snow off balconies than doing any actual building. Winter is on it's way out? Good one. It is Edmonton and it's not July yet so yes, still winter.

Now it's a real peak in the skyline - congrats! Is there a metro station nearby for quick service to the downtown core? If so, then it could make a great package to live there. The riverbank is your bloodline; city transit is your lifeline. (Better yet, work in the 'hood)....

I've heard that a lot of people hate Edmonton because it's cold and industrial and full of pricks that want to kill you for no reason, having the worst random murder rate in Canada, per person. Is that true? Is it like Detroit, or like crystal meth in the states?

At least this development adds a little niceness to the pie. And that's all I can say.

No LRT on Jasper, but it is a busy transit corridor with frequent bus service. There will be LRT three blocks north at some point in the future.

'I joined this forum as I felt the need to shed some light on the glazing process. On this particular project the glazing tender package went out to local, national and international tender. The local companies were beat out by the Chinese company by a substantial amount, hence the CBSA investigation on dumping and subsidizing ( makes for good reading http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/media/ant...03-04-eng.html ). The glazing package was over $6m to $7m with the Chinese coming in over $1m to $2mil lower. The developer took advantage of the savings, maybe not realizing the logistics, maybe not realizing the lack of local management. Not sure the reasons so don't quote me on that.
Typically the standard for glazing to be installed is 6-7 floors behind the concrete pour, right now the owner is faced with a major delay which could result in class action suit to the developer similar to the Georgia Hotel in Vancouver (again, makes for good reading , http://www.harpergrey.com/news/2012/...georgia-condo/ ) This may be the norm with offshore supply.
Oh, by the way $1m savings buys allot of warranty compounded by the possibility of the glazing contractor being back charged for delaying the project if it is their fault, I'm am sure the Owner is laughing all the way to the bank. Strata may have a problem with replacement glass though.
Oh your comment about the blood sweat and lives, typical wage in China is $200 a month, what about the 50 people in Canada that lost their jobs when the fabrication for the frames were don in China? Food for thought. My 2 cents worth'

I've seen this many times over. Developer sees a low quote, and figures on making more of a profit margin, only to realize his mistake with either time delays or poor quality. Remaking the poor quality product, time wasted waiting and lawsuits usually swallow up all and more of the original profit gained.

That is a great shot looking East along Jasper Ave. A rare view given that there is nothing as high as the Pearl down that way. I passed by the site this morning and am sure that I saw them unloading a container of cladding. Yes, GLASS GLASS GLASS. By mid summer this should look amazing. If Colrdrsx had access to the 24th floor for his photo, maybe he has a way of confirming the info on the cladding.
