if they're going to buy it they had better insist that the ground floor be retail.
LIUNA had axed the retail component in their most recent plans.

Hearing Mayor Fred? He's concerned about the parking if the City does move into the Lister Block. He says the replica is still on the table as City Council already approved it. He said office space for the first floor, not as retail.

of course LIUNA cancelled the retail. They want to gut the interior to nothing but floor plates and support columns. then lay down some berber carpet over the subfloor housing all the wiring for the computers and then install overhead flourescent lighting.

Who cares if its a historical building when inside it will look just like any floor of a 90s office building.

It will be gutted from the inside and to me that's the same as demolishing it.

parking? omg

this deal sucks. What would a 'renovation' involve from LIUNA? sweeping the floor and painting the walls for $20 million.

they need every available inch to accommodate all the staff, that's why the retail is gone.

Part of the renovation that LIUNA said in the past the aracade or the main floor will not be gutted. Just the rest of the floors will be.

Mayor Fred is so off!

Someone tell me how emptying out The Right House to save the Lister makes sense. After Public Health leaves Right House, the only thing left is Tim Hortons. And Tim's will probably move to a kiosk on the ground floor. Thus giving the 'retail' component for Lister.

Won't we be emptying one building for another?

ya, but what's the point of having an arcade if there's no retail?
Are you going to stroll down it looking at the frosted windows for the offices?
Makes no sense...

we'll see. I don't believe it.

The building will look like this inside.

Is this historical?

That's the point, the first floor is open for the public, meaning all office space on the first floor will be dealing with customers like an office space for paying your parking fines, getting a marriage license, etc. Basically a one stop centre for everything you need from the City. The rest of the building will be private for workers only.

Really I thought it was for public health. First floor is for standing in line to have your head checked for lice?

The Public Health department is going to where the School Board is.

Instead of building an extension at City Hall for phase 2 (suppose to happen around 2014) I'm assuming they'll just use the Lister Block as part of City Hall.

brutal...this is a friggin joke.
with no street retail, they are completely butchering this thing. what else would I expect from LIUNA and HiRise.
I'll tell you one thing, if Fred doesn't get his act together he's certainly lost this vote next election.
Go check out the new city office space in the old Eatons next to farmers market...that's what Lister will look like at James and King William. Brutal!!

Yes, but who was the intended tenant for Lister? Public Health.

Public Health, they backed out instead for the School Board site. Makes more sense as it'll be located next to the new medical centre.
