Yeah its from Chase Tower, the cables are from the window washing people, the thing is on the ground and been sitting for a couple weeks though. I'll try to give some updates every once in a while when I bring my camera to work.

It looks like we'll still have a surface parking lot, but at least it's only 1/2 as big as it used to be.

Great find... But what i dont get is why they didnt just make the building taller so there wouldnt be the need of surface parking

I assume the surface lot is for ASU Downtowns usage, since CPE has a parking podium included in it. Remember, originally, CPE was going to include the journalism school and other ASU stuff, so this land is still slated for some ASU uses. In the future, as ASU downtown expands, they'll probably build something where the surface lot currently is.

Exactly, I figure it was left for future development or sale, but in the meantime, they can use it for parking instead of leaving it as dirt.

I'm actually disappointed in 1CPE. It should be every bit of 500 feet tall, not 383 feet. Why not go up another 7-8 stories and do it right?

I agree Don, why not go taller? Does the market not support more office space?

/\ You can see to the "north" of the building in the site plan HX_Guy posted (really the west of the building), there are two semi-large "Landscape Areas" shown.

While I'm all for landscaping, shade especially, this large setback and landscape area is a joke. What's the problem with having minimal setbacks and putting shade trees in the sidewalk? If the landscape area is a part of their required storm water detension/retension area, that is an even bigger joke. Requirements like that are 100% definitely not warranted downtown.

^ Isn't it more expensive to build up to the street to meet fire code? Could explain the minimum frontage on Van Buren given how far Chase is from the street, which would also be in line with a future bus station development on the other side of Central.

I've been echoing Don's statements about OCPE being taller for months. It should be taller but my only hope is that a taller building (at least 450') will go up on the north west corner of the lot. If they want to include ASU that's fine but don't allow them to put another 7 story stump downtown.

That was the original plan, for this current building to be about this short, and the second one to be taller.

They planned it this way from the get go so really nothing is out of line so far. It's not the same situation going on with CityScape where they are reducing the height of their buildings.

wow, it's like the two buildings we are talking about plus the WC building stuck on the side. In retrospect this would have been a better use of space downtown instead of ASU devoting an entire block to the journalism school. What else is on that lot, a parking lot?

Also, what was suppose to go on the Ramada real estate?

/\ Just a bigger hole now?

Thanks for taking these pictures, I was planning on making a quick jaunt over to the site to see if there has been any progress, now I don't have to.

Yea, just a bigger hole and some column in the ground it appears. Things seem to have slowed down a bit, not much equipment is on site.

My friend who designed the building says the next thing is some sort of matt that gets laid down before the crane is placed......does this make sense as why not much equipment? Are they prepping the area for the matt and then crane installation?

I got some news. The tower crane stools are scheduled to be set on 12/6, with the tower crane foundation pour to be on 12/7. Following the required curing, the tower crane erection will begin on 12/15.

The mat footing will start after the tower crane erection. I believe the mat footing for this job is 8'-10' deep, so once they start pouring, it will be a 24 hour a day operation until they are poured out. Probably in the neighborhood of 2000-3000 CY.

Anyone know if there is a thread started for the 24th & Camelback Phase ll office building?
