This is a photo that many people have likely seen which I think originally comes from NASA. Since the photo is so large, I just provided the link from wikipedia.com: (it might take a few seconds to load depending on your internet speed)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ights_dmsp.jpg

If you zoom in you can clearly see the lit up outline of Nova Scotia and Halifax area along with all the other major North American centers.

That's actually the original construction of Park Lane. The closest crane is working on the section that had the movie theatre entrance/food court/parkade, and the farthest crane is working on the front office tower on Spring Garden Road. I'd put this at about 1988 or 89. The Martello Tower addition, although a planned expansion came much later (this decade) along with the Paramount which would be to the right just out of this photo. In the foreground you can see the MT&T building (black glass low-rise), and the cool little Irving Gas Station that was on Sackville Street. There is now a low brick apartment building in that spot.

The Metro Centre looks quite good in this photo. It looks like the exterior of the Metro Centre could be cleaned up and look quite respectable. Adding some exterior glass might help also - as on the south end of the Centre.

A Hyundai Pony! And a MT bus in their old largely black livery. Neat to see. Also good to see the old MT&T "elephant" logo in the previous pic.

I had a Hyundai Pony - I think it was a 1983 or 1984 model (it was a few years old when I bought it). They were actually quite reliable cars - later I made the mistake of buying a used 1993 Hyundai Sonata which worked well until it got to 150,000 km then everything started going almost all at once. I have never owned a Hyundai since.

I have a similar photo taken from the Citadel facing south from around 2000 or so, back when I used a film camera and scanner. I'll have a look for it. It would be interesting to have the different versions side by side.

I loved some of those older buses. The back doors would sometimes be so stiff to open - it was fun watching people try to open them.

Whoa, the MT&T exchange is striking. I have no memory of the red-brick reclad, when/why'd that happen? Cool photos!

Megan Leslie Wikipedia write-up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megan_Leslie.

Is Megan Leslie in favour of development or generally against?

One of the original HCAP types, and a NDPer. Do you even have to ask? She would probably stake herself with a chain to an empty lot in downtown to oppose a new building.

This is the (now) yellow house at the corner of Barrington and South, isn't it?

This seems to be what the Halifax Forum used to look like:

And this is the Roy Building before the upper floors were added:

There used to be a North West Arm Bridge at some point:

I think that last one is where the roundabout is now, I think that church is still up on the hill, but now a private home.
