This is the BITIS Tower. In 1958 the first skyscraper in the city's history emerged, the Franco & Daco building. The building stood at 505 feet, making it not only the tallest in the country, but in Latin America. But the building didn't hold the title of tallest for long. In 1886 a small family started a company called the Banco Internacional Tres Islas Marias [BITIS, International Bank of Tres Islas Marias] and by the 1950's it was the largest bank in the nation.
The company began plans to build a new tower, taller than the F&D building. In April 4th 1957 construction began on the new tower. It was completed in 1959 with a height of 543 feet and 40 floors.
The BITIS Tower instantly became a city landmark, drawing tourists from other cities as wel as Mexico and Southern California. The building has served BITIS since it first opened and was declared a national landmark in 1989, 30 years after it opened.
The tower's three last habitable floors have a special feature that makes this tower different from all other office buildings in the country. Floors 37 and 38 each have a resident which was designed for the founder's family of BITIS. Each floor has rooms, kitchens, and many other features which make these condo's some of the most valuable in the city and the second most expensive in city history. There is even a pool on the 37t floor for both units and a large deck on the 38th floor.
Boring stories again, i know... Can anyone guess where I got inspiration for this building? Hint: It's in the East Coast.
