I really like the drawings of what the foot of Canal St. will look like when this is all finished. My regret is that at my age, I won't be able to return to NO to see it. Thanks for all the pictures and news -- they help me keep up with the city I loved.

It was a long day for the crew and our valued subcontractors on TMG's Crime Lab Project, but we completed the slab on grade and we are prepared for Structural Steel to begin next week.

New Hotels, New Experiences: You Should Go To New Orleans For The Holidays

It changed hands last year and new owner Jayson Seidman who has two other boutique hotels in town, has renamed it Columns, is restoring its architectural features such as a commanding spiral mahogany staircase and a domed stained glass skylight while modernizing the décor. The results are due to be unveiled in December along with expanded outdoor spaces, a rooftop bar and a restaurant led by the chef and team behind the neighborhood favorite Coquette.

The first new hotel to open in the French Quarter in half a century, ONE11 Hotel will be an 83 room conversion of a 19th century former sugar warehouse when it opens December 11th. Located riverfront in the heart of what was the Sugar District, the design will be a combination of sleek, contemporary elements and the rough hewn textures of the industrial architecture with exposed brick walls, iron beams and cypress wood pillars. The hotel restaurant Batture Bistro + Bar is opening momentarily serving creative cocktails and Creole inspired bites such as Boudin egg rolls with Louisiana aioli with outdoor spaces including a front porch and a rooftop terrace overlooking the Mississippi.

Any news on which development team was selected by the Convention Center Board to develop the land next to the center?

With all the changes made at the end of Canal, the new hotel ONE11 seems like it will be in an ideal location.

Even after looking at that building online, I don't remember ever seeing it in person before I left NO. I even used that parking lot, and yet I don't remember the building. I guess the large hotel shopping center on one side and the Quarter attractions on the other side let me not pay attention to it.

I havent seen any confirmation there was ever a meeting. Nothing indicates any meeting took place on the website either. Just their normal meeting for the month. Anyone actually have any links to confirmation they had presentations given to the selection committee?

It came from this article on nola.com

The three developers competing for the entertainment district project were asked to include in their plans a new civil rights museum, as well as other cultural amenities and public spaces.

The board plans to hold a public meeting on November 16 to see presentations from the three finalists.

The finalists are: The Domain Companies, run by Matthew Schwartz and Chris Papamichael, whose projects include the South Market District; The Woodward, Levanthal and Carpenter & Co. consortium, which includes partners who are building the Four Seasons New Orleans, which is expected to be completed next year; and, the Lauricella Land, Cypress Equities, JCH Properties consortium.

Harrah's Construction?

Noticed today Harrah's has construction fencing and barricades up around the side where they proposed to build the tower. Is that actually happening now?

Seems to be, believe they are bulldozing on another side as well to build a temp valet area until the hotel tower is finished with the permanent valet area at the bottom of it

What's happening with the old Browns Dairy on Baronne? Hopefully something more creative than another Texas wrap apartment building...

That's good to hear, I wonder if they'll actually put in a NOBU on the poydras side where the steak house is currently like they had in the previous renderings

Probably. Caesars has partnerships with brands like NOBU, Wolfgang Puck and Gordon Ramsay at many of their properties so makes sense to see similar ones here.

This showed up yesterday so they are starting work on the temp valet area too. Interesting the Applicant is Caesars Entertainment now and not Harrahs Jazz like normally is. May be more indication of a name change for the property when construction finishes.
