It's the zoom effect that makes them look closer than they really are. They're located about 30 km from the photographer in this shot.

It's a testament to all the new towers Montreal is building that I no longer instantly see those landmarks.

Curious, with all the new height out there, is it possible to see the Kitchener Skyline from the CN Tower? The math on the general earth curvature seems to say yes, but I'm not sure about topography and atmospheric conditions and such.

What proportion of Canada's navy is featured in these shots?

I know this is tongue-in-cheek, but it's actually not as high as you'd think.

1/4 Victoria class submarines
4/12 Halifax class frigates
4/12 Kingston class OPVs
1/6 Harry Dewolf class AOPVs

Around 15% of the primary (non-support/auxiliary) active fleet. Support vessels are things like tugs or fire boats.

We certainly don't have the WWI/II size fleets around anymore. We probably had twice as many mine-sweepers for both those wars than we do boats in total today.

Towards the end of WW2, I believe Canada had the third largest navy in the world.

We still had an aircraft carrier as late as the 1970s
