I like your vid. It gives a good sense of scale that doesn’t quite come across in pics. Also: that substation has got to go ASAP. Such a waste of space and such an eyesore.

Cool video.

Their Facebook page notes that it's at the "59th floor" - technically the main roof. That puts it at 638 feet now.

that's just it.....it "looks" dense. but it really isn't....by comparison. Austin had more people living downtown 80 years ago than it does now. 40,000 people compared to about 20,000 now, iirc.

That’s only because there’s less residential sq ft downtown than there used to be, controlling for the average dwelling’s sq ft while there’s vastly more office and hotel space. Retail is probably a wash. In other words, there’s probably MORE people downtown now at any given moment than 80 years ago, but comparatively fewer of them RESIDE there.

Nice picture! The Independent is looking really good, and tall! From that angle the Proper does a good job of hiding the majority of the Facebook tower. It will be nice to see what eventually goes in at Block 185.

Love how "canyon"-like Nueces is starting to look by Cesar Chavez from this angle. The effect will be complete when we get a dazzling new supertall at Block 185

Thanks, I'm suprised it came out as good as it did considering I wasn't at ground level if you take my drift..

Should see some of the videos that I took which turned out to be upside down lmao.

But yes, the view from there is just crazy. Even though I've been down there while these towers were already under construction, it still makes you stop and stare in awe at how it looks. I mean if anyone saw that pic that hasn't been in Austin for the past 10-15 years, they probably wouldn't know it was Austin, especially since none of the traditional iconic buildings are in the view. 360 used to look so lonely over there, now only the very top pokes up.

I still hate how 360 has become obscured, but I will say one thing, it's made me realize just how tall it really is. How much it towers over the surrounding buildings and even how it stands up to The Independent. Technically, 360 has a 500 foot roof height to the parapet below the spire (the white part).

My favorite feature on the 360 is the lighting from ground to spire. Its pretty much gone from view forever, in its entirety.

More than a decade ago I remember going downtown one afternoon to take photos and to see 360 lit for the first time. I had been on the greenbelt that afternoon. There's a spot where the trail curves where 360 comes into view as you near the exit of the trail near the pool. The lights then were just starting to come on. I caught my first real glimpse of it a few minutes later as I rode down Barton Springs Road before stopping off in Butler Park to see it. It also shows up around my neighborhood in South Austin from serveral spots. It's one of the few buildings that shows up so well at night. Even now from a few places it still does, but yeah, it's being blocked pretty badly. I wish I had the ability to switch a few of those buildings around.

Only from some places. I still see it every time I drive into downtown from South Lamar.

Haven't heard so this is just speculation, but honestly the best I could see is white lights at the mechanical penthouse. It's usually pretty rare to see condos lit up as well as office buildings, just because of risking bothering the residents. I guess thats why really only the 360, Bowie, and Amli on 2nd have any semblance of lighting

Yes, this. The last thing I'd want is my building to be lit up at night.
BTW, the top-out party is officially announced for May 20.

Austonian is only occasionally lit for some reason. They never turn on the LED tubs ringing the top anymore and only once in awhile the white lights in the crown are lit. It's a shame really. My main gripe with many of the buildings is why spend the money on lighting in the first place if it's not gonna be used?

The lights on 360 where blue this weekend. Are we getting ready for when most of the buildings go blue or something? We haven't done it in a few years.
