My MO? What would that be? I happen to love Austin, lived there myself for a year and wish I could have made it my permanent home. In reading this subforum sometimes, the speculation does get into quite a bit of wishful thinking and I'm allowed to put my 2 cents in on that just as everyone else is.

80% load factor is pretty darn good. Also, it is not all about the number of passengers. Freight possibilities are among other variables in deciding on new routes.

In all seriousness, I, for one, appreciate your 2 cents. Thank you.

Seriously? Hill Country explained what he meant by MO in the next couple of sentences. You got upset at that?

Ha, you beat me to it. I was going to post that if there is going to be any announcement it's going to have to come this week. Either that or they have pushed whatever they are planning later.

Time keeps on ticking....

Chill out, guys. Nobody associated with the port said anything about an eminent "big" announcement in April. It was a trusted source on this thread. And this source did not guarantee anything.

This is another step needed for the flight that makes me believe there is some truth to the rumor.
Austin1971, regarding the part of you statement I bolded, was that rumored or was that verifiable? It read more like a factual statement than a rumor, so I was just curious.

I also heard the same from another source about KE securing, or wanting to secure such needed things so that they can fly a route to Austin.

Seems like the biggest question here is how far these "rumors" traveled before reaching even the most credible of sources. Maybe something small referencing KE and Austin turned into a new transpac rumor.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see AUS have a long-haul route to both far ends on the East and West, as a plane-spotter.

I am quite chilled out. Never said "big" announcement nor have I said that a KE announcement is even going to happen. All I said was whatever announcement may come it either will come this week or later on. It's safe to say sooner or later some sort of announcement, whether it's about a new flight or something else, will occur eventually this year and it could be about anything. The airport continues to experience strong growth and the year is still young. If you go back a couple of pages I also said that other than some hints from a reliable source, it's all speculation at this point.

Virgin will begin the AUS-DAL route tomorrow with 5 daily flights (later downsized to 4 in October). I used to be able to identify where certain planes were coming from based on their livery (Frontier: Denver, Virgin: SFO, Allegiant: Las Vegas), but you can't really do that anymore (except with BA). Just a thing I noticed.

I dunno if this really counts as an update but last night I wrote the entire Mandarin page for the airport on Wikipedia, and today I just finished a major overhaul of the French version.

Also a lot of flights will be commencing within the next month or two. I'll be interested to see the impact on overall passenger numbers.

It could still happen. It may just be that the timing (April) was wrong.

Let's not forget that back in February, The Austin Airport Advisory Commission went into Executive Session

Quote:
to discuss or deliberate regarding commercial or financial information that the City has received from business prospects that the governmental body seeks to have locate, stay, or expand in the City and with which the City is conducting economic development negotiations.
We still don't know what that was all about. It might not have anything to do with Korean Air - or any airline for that matter - but it's still an indication - to me at least - that something important related to the airport is going on behind the scenes.

Still A Chance For KE

I agree, I have heard many people telling me that Korean Air has been in talks with different departments of the airport to establish the station they need to fly here, which makes me believe these are not just rumors. I think we will hear from them in May or June, and if not, maybe later in the year.

Does anyone know the status of BA upgrading their aircraft? I have heard we will get the 789 and 772 at some point this year, but none of this is official, it's just speculation.

Also, just wanted to throw this out, not sure if others have said this before, but Austin is on the potential Air France destination list as I have heard from an Air France friend! Would be great to see a route from them here one day maybe even on the A350!

Whaooo so much potential. I want those rumors to prove my "realistic/pessimistic" self wrong . The a350-900 is pretty big though. An a330-200 may be more fitting, although it wouldn't be as fuel-efficient.
