Hasn't every forum slowed down over the years with rise of social media?
I actually only recently started regularly visiting this forum (used to just be on reddit) as the discussions here are much more informed and nuanced. Refreshing compared to social media.

many transit forums are on an app called Discord nowadays, I'd argue.

In other news, the first Mark V set that was delivered was spotted in revenue service today (6011/6025)

It's been carrying passengers since July.

The first Mark V train in passenger service was 6061-6075 6051-6065, which was the 3rd train delivery. 6011-6025 was delivered back in 2023 and used for a bunch of system testing, but didn't enter passenger service until today.

As of today, 4 Mark V trains are in service with the 5th set in testing, which bodes well for the "1 train delivery a month" schedule going forward.

When are Mk1 trains being retired? I'm still seeing old white livery 2 car sets in the mix.

Aren't the Mk1s in the white livery the "newest" Mk1s from the early 90s? First in line would be any units with issues.

Eight Mark 1 married pairs have already been retired/scrapped. The most recent being 129-130 which was the train that caught fire in New Westminster last month, it was the first pair transfered as part of their reuse program.

The white livery cars are the youngest but also haven't been refit as the older cars have so they should be the first to go.

Since all Mark I cars where delivered in Exp86 livery, how often are trains painted, and when did TransLink start re-painting the Mark I's in the Translink 1.0 livery (all white with the yellow and blue swoosh or what ever it's called).

Some MKIs have also been repainted in the dark gray livery of the MKIIIs.

I'd love it if TransLink could put up a sort of undercover area so people don't stand at the top of the stairs at Burrard station when it's raining.

Surrey council report on the KGB BRT line currently at 30% design completion.

https://www.surrey.ca/sites/default/file...DCqalH9ATrcyg_aem_0bzzzRxs3u26-YYCN6GgPw

This confirms the preference for centre running as apposed to curb running. KGB will maintain the current two general purpose lanes in each direction with left turn lanes at major intersections.
A draft station design is show and a pilot station is planned to be built by Q3 2026.

Also, TL has recently launched an RFP for station structure fabrication.

This is pleasantly surprising, it shows that Translink is actually somewhat committed to BRT standards at platform level (secure space, pre-payment, etc.) I still was feeling pretty wary that this was going to be anything other than Rapidbus with a new coat of paint and maybe a few more kilometres of dedicated bus lanes.

I assume we'd have brand new buses for a median stop? All of TransLink's artics open on the right.

They could run them the wrong way on either side but I don't know if MoT would consider that ok even with the BRT with a seperate right of way

Still right hand side loading. The station platforms go in between the bus lane and GP lanes, not in the very centre between the bus lanes.

Yeah, the platforms normally line up with left turn lanes across the intersection so there's less of a jog in the lanes.
If the bus has signal priority, it won't have to stop twice.

The purpose of this memo is to notify Council of unsolicited proposals being developed by private entities to do a streetcar trial on City right-of-way and provide a brief overview of City approach and next steps related to this opportunity. On Wednesday, December 11th, the City will send out a letter to interested private entities with requirements to address for the City to consider a streetcar trial.

The City has determined that it will not support operation of a streetcar during the FIFA World
Cup 2026 for a number of factors, including additional challenges for FIFA event planning as
well as the potential to jeopardize a successful streetcar trial. Accordingly, interested parties
should only proceed to submit a proposal if they are interested in running a trial operation
starting no earlier than September 2026.

TDI Greenway

Quote:
The company develops VLR solutions that run on battery-only propulsion with the aim of delivering sustainable mass transit systems for net-zero operation. According to TDI Greenway, its vehicles run on cheaper infrastructure than heavy rail systems, offering significant cost savings across transport projects. TDI Greenway’s vehicle fleet includes the Revolution VLR, Lync VLR and Orbit.

The Revolution VLR is a bi-directional vehicle with a composite bodyshell made from recycled carbon fibre. It facilitates the low-cost connectivity of regional and rural areas. A range of power units for the Revolution VLR are in development, including electric battery-only, fast charging propulsion systems which run without the need for costly catenary pantograph systems. Lync VLR is a bi-directional light urban transit vehicle designed to connect outlying communities with city centres and main transport hubs. The Orbit is a unidirectional very light urban transit vehicle designed for city centres, airports, park-and-ride applications, and last-mile transport solutions.
