I've been wondering the same thing...I highly doubt that they will before Sunday, but it will probably only remain that way for a few months at most. They're almost done with the Path station's roof, so I don't think it will be long before that quadrant is opened. I'm expecting to see that by the end of the year...as long as the weather cooperates that is

I'll probably be staying away from the area on the anniversary (just too many people in the way), but a message for anyone planning to go down...

City: Heavy 9/11 Weekend Restrictions on Vehicles, Pedestrians

By Jessica Terrell

Quote:
The 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001 may be accompanied by the most restrictive access to Lower Manhattan streets since the dark days that followed the attacks.

According to a letter from the mayor’s office released Tuesday, access to Battery Park City and Lower Manhattan south of Warren Street will be severely limited this weekend, beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 and ending at 8 p.m. Sunday night. Access in and out of the area, whether by foot, vehicle and mass transit will be restricted, according to the letter. Both the Vesey Street and Rector Street bridges will be closed most of Sunday, Sept. 11 and all West Street crossings south of Warren Street and north of Rector Street will be prohibited.

Pedestrians and workers may be required to show identification and traffic and parking will be prohibited on most streets within a wide swath of the World Trade Center site,

‘Ground Zero’ is a term that no longer applies, according to NYC mayor

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/upshot/g...160024481.html

Ten years after the terrorist attacks, and less than a week from the ribbon-cutting at the new World Trade Center, the New York City mayor says it's time to retire Ground Zero.....

Very good 7 minute video...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-14634600

9/11: How the twin towers were builtThe 110-storey landmarks that dominated the Manhattan skyline for nearly 30 years were reduced to rubble in the 9/11 suicide attacks of 2001. Thousands of people in the World Trade Center, and on the planes that crashed into them, lost their lives.

Nice video, but I think it belongs in the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center thread so that the conversation on here doesn't derail into what it always does. Nice find though!

I like the way the 9/11 museum in a certain light reflects the image of the Twin Towers pin stripped facade.

can someone remind me what year/when the "tribute of light" lights will stop running every Sept. 11... or will they continue to do so each year?

Honestly, i think it would be cool to install the lights in the center of each of the fountains, and light them up every 9/11. of course the water floors through the holes in the center, but it would be cool to see.

This is supposed to be the final year.

Is that what those are? Ah, well, when the museum opens, you'll have to pay to get in.

I thought about that as well, but just think it could be pretty bad during the winter seeing as they are outside.

wonder if they are going to be more like the airline kiosks where you reserve tickets online and this is where you can retrieve the actual "boarding pass" (entry tickets). Or if this will just be first come first serve.
