I believe the old lines are the of the "permanent lane marking" type that are cut into the top inch or two of the asphalt and then filled. Still no excuse for not repainting lines. Though, they are just now painting Ring Road... in mid-October.

That whole 13th/Lewvan bike lane is so strange. Didn't they put a little lane on the north side of 13th something like 2 years before doing the south side?

My biggest issue with all the "cycling infrastructure" the city works on, is that there is no connection. They did the MUP along south Pasqua that goes north to Hill Ave. and then just... stops. They also used parking blocks instead of pouring an actual curb and after 1 year, it already looks atrocious. I'd rather the city just hold off on this kind of work until they actually figure out a way to make cycling infrastructure work as a transportation method and not just for a leisurely summer bike rides.

As someone who uses the Pasqua MUP almost daily for commuting to work, while the parking blocks for separation don't look great, they work. I agree though that they need to extend that MUP all the way north to at least where the cross-town route is now.

One annoyance with the Pasqua path is how it joins Parliament. When you approach from the south, it is awkward to join the path. You either take the right ramp and transition to an arc around the curve, or shoot for the narrow gap at the left ramp. Yet another spot where an unnecessary square curb between 2 ramps gets in the way of the natural cycling trajectory.

To extend the path further north following Pasqua they'll just need to extend the box culvert near the old Dutch Growers location. They did the same thing when they widened Dewdney a few years ago.

A few times I've contacted the city for various issues in that area they've let slip details of their plan, which is otherwise some sort of state secret. They've mentioned extending the south storm channel pathway to the NW. Presumably to Hill or Pasqua.

If they followed the storm channel past Pasqua behind the ball diamonds, they could have it meet up with Regina Ave at the Lewvan then proceed north to meet up with the Devonian path by adding a bridge over Wascana Creek. Though a grade leve path crossing at Lewvan / Regina is just asking for trouble, due to drivers habitually blowing red lights when turning right.

The problem is all that stuff costs money, and I figure cycling infrastructure is first on the chopping block whenever its time to balance a budget.

The at-grade MUP crosswalk at Parliament and Lewvan is horrific now, and I'm sure this would be even worse.

[QUOTE=one_brick_at_a_time;9761618]Updated Sask Power Head Office renovations (main floor and outside). Hope tree cells and new trees are being added to the front.

I saw new tree cells on the Hamilton and Vic frontages with brand new trees just planted. I did not look at Scarth.

From the CoR Building & Development Update today:

Quote:
Intensification and Revitalization Incentives

In September, City Council approved a slate of incentives to support revitalization and investment in City Centre and Heritage and North Central. The incentives cover costs for construction, demolition, building code compliance and other costs associated with intensification and revitalization projects. Additionally, the City will waive certain development fees associated with intensification projects.

Development fees will be waived starting immediately and the application for the other incentives will be available this January. Stay tuned for updates!

As part of our efforts to remove barriers to development, the City also removed the Intensification Levy city-wide effective November 2021. We are committed to seeing significant progress on attracting new residents and businesses to the heart of our city.

Agreed a good move. I've heard there might be some things in the works too which would be exciting!

An east Regina condo that has sat unfinished for several years is expected to be completed by next year.

#1 How is this news? Don't really care what their expectations are, let us know when it's actually done!!

#2 "Centrally-located and infill????" What is he smoking?

I feel like that had to be some kind of a weird mis-quote. Even the phrasing was odd.

The re-use of the downtown YMCA building is a great boost for downtown. The alternative of another empty lot and, no traffic and the continued flight of healthcare offices to the suburbs, would not be ideal.

If you added the words "In the Greens subdivision it is..." to the start, it makes sense in that context. However, still odd to use the word infill for an area that has never had anything built on it.

Paint? Its all granite and mosaic tile, other than the central stairwell. I would preserve those mid-century elements and maybe deal with stairwell and windows.

Windows for sure! I’ve just never really liked the look of the building BUT maybe because it hasn’t been refreshed in a while. Also the power lines running right in front don’t help.

It could use some TLC, for sure. I think new windows and some fresh landscaping would do wonders for it. I love the granite and tile. The street scape along McIntyre and Smith leaves a lot to be desired though. Just needs something to break up the endless brick wall (especially on Smith).
