I suspect that the business access in that street view used to be the TCH, bypassed when TCH was twinned. Something like that can be done at Whitbourne (or, as I digress, in Deer Lake too).

Edit: The only viable compromise that I can see is to build it like the right-in right-out expressway through Grand Falls - Windsor with a 90-kph speed limit.
I agree. If the highway is going to be constructed as a freeway, do it right. None of this half-ass stuff. If people wish to access the services, they can exit the highway - no big deal. Certainly do not want Whitbourne to turn into Newfoundland's version of Breezewood.

Well Deer Lake is already like that: https://maps.app.goo.gl/iyrJH3Fe1fZys7VXA

Edit: The only redeeming feature of the Deer Lake situation is that there’s technically still space to twin TCH while maintaining the 10.5-m median.

I agree with preserving businesses, but not (or even never) at the expense of compromising roadway design elements.

The final phase of the Team Gushue Highway should be evidence enough that we're not really interested in doing anything right.

Agreed ... 4 lane divided highway transitioning into roundabouts.

I wonder will the speed limit on the 'Brookfield' segment be 60kph?

TGH Completion

A cruise down Brookfield Road last week shows crews were still busy
working on the TGH completion.

Guess the lack of snow thus far, has provided opportunity to get some winter work done!

I've driven past at night and it is lit up and crews are working.

Seems the city is taking the cheapest way out again. Why cant we have SIDEWALKS like all these new neighbourhoods being developed in the city?

Still busy on Brookfield Rd with construction of the TGH. Anyone know exactly where it will come out to on Topsail Rd?

Look at Google Maps, seems like it will loop around and come to Dunn's Rd intersection. Very poorly designed section.

The NL government Transport and Infrastructure account provided an update video on the Team Gushue extension on Twitter/X:

Took me a minute, but I see what you mean. That offramp to Topsail Rd From TGH North is... practically non existent. Our on/off ramps are poorly designed and too short here anyway, but this takes the cake.

Yes, I fear what it will be like with both off ramps merging together towards Topsail Rd. If you are coming from the Goulds you have to merge with other traffic. Good Luck with that duckie.

I agree it's a crappy design, no doubt exacerbated by no land being available there for a proper exit.

What may alleviate it some is that the volume of traffic exiting there now to continue on Dunn's Lane, should reduce some with the completion of the TGH.

Folks with Goulds and south destinations, as well as SW Mt. Pearl and Southlands, are currently exiting there at rush hours.

TGH Completion

Coming down Brookfield Road this morning, it was amazing to see the heavy equipment still at work on the TGH completion!

I don't remember before seeing a highway project continuing thru' the winter months!

Curiously enough, the new development at the corner of Mount Carson and Kenmount, is also proceeding thru the winter!

While there is some activity on the TGH it's odd that it's not at near the level that was seen during the winter months. I'm curious about the work taking place in the right lane on top of the Topsail Rd. on/offramp overpass. Why the excavation now?
