Murray City Skyline.

Notice the new 6-story office building to the far right.

My guess is they will have a larger, integrated Trax station in the airport when they finally rebuild it.

I really hope they'll have ticket gates at the airport station. I think tourists would be more likely to buy week-long passes (if those even exist) if they thought tickets were actually needed to use the system. In general, really, I wish they'd try to utilize gates instead of the "random-ambush" tactic of checking tickets for TRAX...

Maybe one reason that they didn't use gates to being with was because the stations are located in the middle of streets downtown....you hardly want a back up of people trying to get through gates and causing traffic problems.

That's true, but all of downtown is in the free fare zone anyway. Further south, I think it makes more sense to enforce it.

True enough, but then how do you enforce people that get on in the downtown area and then get off in Sandy? Certainly UTA doesn't want to pay to put in gates everywhere and also still pay for random ticket checks. Right now it is an imperfect system, hopefully they will find something that works a bit easier as they develop more lines.

Does anybody know how the light rail ticket system works in Portland? Is it similar to SLC?

Yes, and that's how they do it in the majority of transit systems in Europe, too.

In Boston, at the stations outside of the core, they have a machine on the trains that you slide your card into.

The airport station is temporary, meaning that if or when they built the new terminal(s), the station will move. There are many options as to where to move it, none of which has had enough study to determine the best option. I do think that a station inside a terminal is very unlikely. My best guess is that a station will be located inside the planned parking structure or adjacent to it.

The space available at the current location limits the size of the station.

And they only held 3 of 18 concerts they predicted, which were necessary for them to pay for it. How are they going to pay for the stadium when they're not getting the concerts they expected and everyone told them they would not get?

Who's using all the new beds, facilities?

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...acilities.html

The new $200 million patient care pavilion at University Hospital. A large part of the funds for the addition came from bonding. (Mike Terry, Deseret News)

...By the time the new Riverton Hospital opens in early November, more than $594 million in major medical facilities will have opened or been announced along the Wasatch Front this year alone. This as word comes that Intermountain is now considering construction of a new $22 million, 50-bed hospital on 70 acres in Layton...

Riverton Hospital to open next month

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...-Riverton.html

Intermountain's new Riverton Hospital will include a Primary Children's satellite campus. (Tom Smart, Deseret News)

Primary Children's Medical Center just moved closer to tens of thousands of Utahns, whose children can now get specialized treatment at Intermountain Healthcare's new Riverton Hospital...

...The $162 million facility incorporates a three-story satellite facility for Primary Children's patients, the first of its kind to extend the hospital's reach beyond the University of Utah campus...

Hospital expected to invigorate Riverton

Health care » Murray mayor points to development around new IHC complex.

http://www.sltrib.com/business/ci_13603986#

Riverton - Intermountain Healthcare's new hospital here promises to bring much-needed medical services to communities on the southwest end of the Salt Lake Valley.

The $160 million hospital complex, though, with its three buildings on 63 acres at 3741 W. 126000 South, will do more than provide hospital beds, physician offices and emergency services.

It also is expected to serve as a catalyst for future economic development in Riverton and surrounding communities...

So, what are the odds that the Ogden metro is added back to the SLC metro for this next census?

I don't think it will ever be a part of the actual SLC metro again, however, I think they will create a new designation of a CSA (Consolidated Statistical Area) which is how they designate metros like Chicago, SF, LA, NYC etc that really are multiple MSA's put together.

We have three MSA that they would keep separate and then have a CSA to consolidate them.

Well Ogden is already officially part of the SLC CSA. I think Provo will be added to that.

I'm not sure if Ogden would get added back to Salt Lake's metro, but it's possible that the boundaries for the metros may change - such as adding Davis County to Salt Lake, or something along those lines. It just makes no sense to see North Salt Lake, Bountiful, etc. included as part of Ogden. Then again, major cities like Minneapolis and St. Paul, Dallas and Ft. Worth, etc. are included together. The Frontrunner could change things, but that will be for 2020.
