Well, I headed out to take some pictures this evening, it was quite beautiful and very picturesque with the moon appearing behind Shangri-La. I had just gotten to my spot and attempted to snap a photo when the camera refused to because the battery had died and I didn't bring a spare. I may have been foiled this time!! But not tomorrow...

Doesn't look like the window washing crane lowers in this Vancouver Sun photo, but there's something at the "T" that could be a folding joint.

One of the trees is already dying! (another Vancouver Sun photo)

A few pictures of the crane dismantling from Friday. Just a reminder my cameraphone is craptacular.

Great pics, Vanman - even with the phone. Noticed the really cool diagonal shadows effect the afternoon sun gives the building, with all the footings for the light squares - makes it look pinstriped down the Burrard side. Anyone else noticed this?

Vancouver is gridlocked. Please evacuate the downtown core immediately.

I would enjoy living there if I was given the chance. The height doesn't bother me. The worst thing would happen is if I lean on the railing of the balcony and it collapse and I would be free falling over 600ft down for about 6 seconds and would have the best view of downtown until I hit the ground and become a crushed tomato.

Passing over the obvious irony that you're on a skyscraper forum I take it that you won't be rushing out to buy an apartment in the Chicago Spire (http://www.worldrecordsacademy.org/e...le_80117.htm)?

The Vancouver skyline with the Shangri-La clearly visible, taken yesterday (Sunday July 13th) from across Burrard Inlet in North Vancouver:

Yeah those solar squares give the Shangri-la an interesting texture that changes throughout the day.

I am thinking based on what was said earlier about the crane not going to be visible that maybe they might be putting up false walls that fold down to hide this ugly crane, and fold down when in use. I was also thinking this because from some of the drawings we have seen in the past the core looks higher than the glass panels on the outside. Which it doesn't look like now, but may be an optical illusion Any insite on if we are going to be looking at the crane as the tallest point of our skyline or not?
