Never thought I'd see Saskatoon and Petra in the same list before...

Speaking of worthy architecture....I know so many people in Saskatoon that have never taken a walk around the U of S campus...and they are missing a gem of architecture in one location. We always make a point of taking visitors for a stroll through campus to take in the gothic type architecture combined with 60's type and modern additions. Always photo ops on campus by some of these buildings!

Certainly great for Saskatoon to have a shout out in Architectural Digest. Just curious about the Jane Fonda comment, though. Is there some King Ralph - Jane Fonda affiliation?

Haha no. A ton of celebrities subscribe to Architectural digest and just have them hanging around their mansions meaning their friends will pick it up and read it. I’d say this shout out is better than the New York Times article - I think quite a lot of the ultra rich go fishing up north either the NWT or Northern Sask in the summers but never stop in Saskatoon for a day or two.

The taxi we got was an old crown vic, probably an old cop model, dusty and dirty, but cleaner and more personable than the driver (this was the same way it'd always been, from my earliest memories).

So I'm wondering:
1. Has the taxi system improved?
2. Is Uber available?
3. Are there hotel shuttles now?
If no to any of these, why not? There must be some opportunity for people to capitalize on this growing market.
I travel through SkyXE fairly often and always like to try different options for taxis, extended parking at airport, or even shuttles to nearby hotels etc without having to ask friends/family to always pick me up or drop me off especially if at odd hours of day/evening.

The last and one of the only times I tried Saskatoon City transit from the airport I was completely shocked and appalled by the bus driver and it was my worst experience on a city transit system anywhere in the world.

I didn't have much experience with taking transit in Saskatoon and had to transfer to another bus downtown, I asked driver what the last stop on bus was on that route to see how close it could get me to my destination and the bus driver rudely replied 'CITY TRANSIT YARD IS THE LAST STOP!' and told me to get off the bus with my luggage and all! I got off the bus and called a taxi and that is the last time I had ever taken Saskatoon City Transit.

Another question, on developments: How are these other sites progressing? It's been a few months since updates on:

1. Baydo on Broadway - Don't know
2. Old Lydia's - Construction Underway - Building largely closed in
3. High-end 'strip mall' across from 'Don't say bread, say Earl's" - Underway with most of envelope done
4. Ol' Egadz - Pretty sure it's underway, but don't recall what stage it is at

I think that's about it. Cheers, and Happy New Year!
Pretty timely questions as a major renovation to the Saskatoon airport is just being completed and there are now separated drive-thru lanes for private vehicles and for taxis. This allows for much more capacity to pick up and drop off passengers but I don't know if there will be any shuttles taking advantage of this additional space.

I've answered what I can of your questions in the quotes above.

What would be a great addition to the airport is inter-city shuttles. A few times per day heading to neighboring communities that don't receive air service.

anyone hear when the new Motion Fitness in Lawson is opening? There's a For Sale sign on the side of the Nelson Road location, so they must be moving their offices to either the new Brighton location, or this Lawson one that should be open in a few weeks. That building in Uni Heights is always packed, I wouldn't be surprised if another gym takes over. Evolution Fitness - similar sized chain in Regina, is 10x better than Motion Fitness here in Saskatoon. Would be awesome to see them come up here.

Edit: Evolution Fitness even supports their city's downtown with a location. If Motion Fitness won't, I wonder if Goodlife would open up in River Landing since the rumors of them opening in the Scotia Center are long dead - even with like 80% of Scotia Center's retail being vacant lol. @Midtown plz buy the Scotia Center and build a skywalk or underground extension.

As this is the construction thread....

I was looking at the Escala website and it looks to me like only 19/45 units are sold.
I hope that is enough for the project to proceed as scheduled... but it must be a little disappointing for the developers.

I think the target market for Escala is a little different than #1RL or the UC Broadway project. Fingers crossed that UC Broadway sells well and maybe, just maybe, parcel D/E near the farmers market will be next!

I think/hope it's possible that they just haven't updated their website for quite some time. I say this because the site also showed 19 units sold about a month ago.

Maybe the moderators should delete non construction posts as soon as they are up if they are able, or start a thread for them, they die fast anyway. Probably haven't updated their site as it is the holiday season and not much happens for a couple of weeks.
