It actually does have a soft spot in my heart. And still has true symbolism today... Patchwork fields.

I'm guessing there will be a higher approval from people with history in the stadium than people from elsewhere, which is fine really, because in the end, that's for whom the stadium was built.

During the final few games at Ivor Wynne, there were people who brought tools and did their own pre-demolition/preservation on items like section signs. I imagine quite a few things were saved for posterity before the team officially auctioned off memorabilia.

Haha, yeah... I've talked about bringing a saw with me (I sit on the East side, where there are still wooden benches). Would be amazing to have the sign at the very back of the section too though... Ideas, ideas, ideas...

Every Dog owner In Canada will wish they built the Big O themselves come January.

Fixing the big O basically put's a nail in the Montreal/MLB coffin unless a private investor with deep deep pockets steps in.

I wasn't alive either when the Olympics happened but it's a great stadium to watch soccer or football. When it's full the atmosphere inside is unparalleled (see Cameron Porter's goal, nothing else needs to be added).

Look at the Impact for example... they play a few games at the big O early spring when it's still too cold outside and Saputo's grass isn't ready.

2015: 1 game at Olympic (attendance: 25,245)... no other game at Saputo this year has seen attendance of more than 13,040.

2014: 3 games at Olympic (27k, 24k and 19k attendance)... no game at Saputo went over 20k.

2013: 2 games at Olympic (38k, 26k attendance)... 2 or 3 sold out games at Saputo in July but that's it.

So as you can see the only time the Impact can even get 20K for a game is when the team play at the big O. Saputo has not sold out in 2 years. So clearly, the stadium is not a problem. It is not poorly designed (save maybe for the roof). The view from inside is just fine. They just need to change the configuration (because this is not a baseball stadium).

Although the opinions on its architecture are very bipolar. I've seen the Stadium on both top 10 worst and top 10 best lists. I personally like it but you're definitely not the only one to dislike it.

History is always worth preserving. It's harder to know where you're going if you don't know where you came from.

Well said. Those benches are part of CFL lore. If those seats could talk they'd say let us die already. Can't believe there were folks that were saying the stadium is good enough as is and no need for a new one. Thank goodness they lost. These benches will look great in new Mosaic Stadium lounge because of what they are and the era they represent.

I agree that the multi-coloured look is an eyesore but it is nostalgic. It's not like they are going to do the same with the seating in the stadium bowl (it'll be green & grey), all they are doing is using some of the metal benches for sentimental reasons in the GA lounge which IMO is very cool. Nothing wrong with embracing a small part of your history while moving forward.

I wish that they had either added a few rows to the south side stands to make them a little more imposing, or wrapped seating around one of the endzones. As it stands it's a bit too much like the old-style CFL stadiums where you basically had one grandstand on either side of the field, and that was that.

I found that too as well the first time I went there.

I mean, the new Lansdowne is better than the old, but my initial feeling was... tout ça... pour ça?

I've always said they were gonna gauge interest for a few seasons. See what the needs of the redblacks are in term of both STH attendance and corporate. They will do something with those endzones but most likley wait for an event to fund most of it. (Grey Cup)
