Lots of dirt being moved. The cement wall at the former Iron Works BBQ overflow parking site is being demo'ed this afternoon.

So, I've gone back and forth on this one....While I am super pumped it's happening, I wonder if there's any chance we may see slight changes to the final product?

I really do not like the crown on this one and think it ultimately looks amateurish compared to most of major cities with supertalls. I just don't want Austin to become a city of forgettable crowned buildings in 10 years.

It reminds me of these homes you'll see around town:

Its really NOT this bad is it. You do have a point if it looks anything like the entry overhang to this house. Right, Left, Straight Down, (whatever).

I'm simply saying: the disjointed pillars and slanty thin roof are so mind bogglingly lazy they do not deserve to be our version of LA's Library Tower.

(referencing height similarities and skyline prominence)

It wouldn't take much to make it more striking tbh. I wonder if someone could photoshop a tweaked crown.... Sorry to bitch...I think I'm still shaking off Indy's fence.

With some tweaking it could look like this.

Great point! That would be a huge improvement. The tower teases on a lot of lovely design elements, but kinda falls short. It technically has a curve, but it's weak and not prominent. The brick pattern could be fully uniform and the stilted / stacked building look hurts my eyes.

What about the crown?

I wonder if some of the elements are going to change by the time we see it in the flesh, so to speak. I do like the tower, but there are some improvements that would cause me to like it more.

If you mess with the crown too much, by making it shorter, could that affect the height enough to take away the supertall status?

It shouldn't take away from the supertall status of 984'. But it could take away the title of Tallest in Texas which is 1,002'.

Just stick a spire on it to make up the difference...a la Fairmont.

Or design some sort of conical crown with a small spire on top. An homage to the Capitol Dome. Hey, at least it would increase the height to - possibly - 1100'.

I highly doubt there would be that much of a redesign..but I love where you're going with it.

I'd love to see frosted illuminated panels of some kind to at least give it some more depth. As it stands now, it really just looks like a P. Terry's on the top. Sorry!! Being the tallest in TX means having a gorgeous lit crown every damn night.

Imagine an actual P. Terry's on top! Best view from a fast food restaurant - Austin Chronicle Best of Austin 2027 awards.
