The steel superstructure for the stage on the plaza in front of the events centre is currently being installed.

I'm disappointed that the webcam doesn't work yet. I see it is trying, but it just keeps freezing. Updated to say that it is now completely down.

Here's a photo I took today of the structural steel for the stage in front of the new events centre:

The oval form in the foreground is presumably for "parcel C", the small cafe/ice skate rental place/ticket booth planned for the front of the plaza (see below).

It still makes me wonder when I look at the map of downtown parking who the brilliant people were that dreamed this up. Most of the parking consists of private and/or gated parking for businesses, retail, apartments, clubs and so on. The majority of the parking spaces outline in wonderful colours on this map are not and will not be available for centre events. What purpose this map serves is beyond me. The city MUST come up with a plan. However, we can rehash this over and over but the city appears to refuse the notion that any problems exist. Oh well.....

Thanks for posting this and for the photos.

Now if we can just get the webcam working. For heaven's sake, just stick a "Go Pro" in a window somewhere. If Halifax, Saint John, etc can have wonderful webcams, why can't we?

The city seems to be hanging their hopes on private lots opening up their spaces for evening parking for the events centre. The document states that the city is "in negotiation" with a number of the private lot owners to facilitate this.

I'm sure that the city will be at least partially successful in this. In particular, I think Heritage Developments will open their ample parking lots for events centre use. Empire Corporation (1222 &1234 Main, downtown Sobeys) will probably also do the same (for a price). This will easily top 1000 spaces which, with on street parking and other parking options, will likely satisfy the requirements of an average attendance Wildcats game (3,500-4,000 spectators). The problems will arise during special events, concerts and playoff games.

The city still needs to build a downtown parking structure. This issue will not go away. We will still be talking about parking and booters in five years time, especially if redevelopment south of Main Street removes some pre-existing surface parking. It would be best to nip this problem in the bud.......

Looks to be these guys: http://www.ibigroup.com and http://crandallengineering.ca. There's likely to be a report from them (beyond the slide deck posted above) that would give some insight into what they're thinking.

It's working perfectly fine, I just went on it and a vehicle drove out, you can see the yellow tape moving, though I would say the workers are on lunch.

I agree, although it comes and goes.... at times it works fine, other times the picture freezes, then comes back, freezes again. BUT, I am happy if it works "almost" all the time. I guess it depends when you "tune in".

They could transfer the one they brought for the old Coliseum. it's not even 3 years old. Plus it's just going to stay there and gathered dust after Fall 2018.

That score clock was put in for the 2006 memorial cup making it 11 years old not 3.

You don't put over $100 million into a building and then cheap out on an important piece to the fan experience.

The scoreboard itself is about 12 years old. The screens were replaced and the quality was a slight improvement but still unacceptable for an arena that will have top of the line everything like the events centre will. I'd expect a new widescreen HD video board will be selected. Hopefully at least the size of what Harbour Station has right now but even bigger would be nice. Its a great selling feature.

You can actually watch the play on the board at Harbour Station..the video quality on the coliseum scoreboard is almost unwatchable.

If im an advertiser I'm not putting my ad on a screen the quality of which the coliseum has now.

My bad, I misread the article wrong, and only saw "new" in 2014.

As for the design, the trend seems to be All LED. A couple of months ago, they built the scoreboard for Place Bell, I wouldn't be surprised if the size/design is similar. That way you can change advertisements on the side of the screen with a simple click.

Weird, doesnt work for me too. Anyway, I put some screenshots of the video.

It's pretty much the same design all around.

That link worked. Thanks. What an awesome system. I wonder what the cost would be on that? It would be great for advertisers and the cost would most likely be offset by advertising on the board.

Also concert-type events would love a board like this to use as a video wall. It could be a selling point to attract big names and events.
