My setup is pretty amateur. I just use a flexible tripod (like this one) and bend it to fit the dash. I then secure it to the dash with two-sided tape.

Ahaha thanks! ... yes pretty amateur, but who cares? The goal is to film the road

My setup is different.

I have a tripod, such as that one : http://www.pethemes.com/demo/pecoin/medi...3594a9c230972d/s/l/slr-camera-tripod.jpg
I fix my camera on top of it. My tripod's feets & head are both retractable and can get pretty high, so I can be sure to never film the whippers and/or the dash.

Finally I just put the tripod with my camera on it between the dash and the seat and be sure the seat is at the maximum forward until the tripod got stuck between both. So it's pretty safe and It can't fall on either sides.
(Not sure if my last sentence was clear, tell me if I wasnt)

My speed is 2x in that one, but I think 3x would have been better.

I have uploaded a few vids at 2x myself. They are pretty slow to watch, but so much of the detail is lost at higher speeds. There is kind of a trade off.

I actually just filmed some road vids around Toronto today.

I used Sony vegas movie studio, but I always got crashes or messages telling me that it has to shutdown due to a technical issue.

The problem is my computer but I don't get enough money to buy one at the moment.

Good ! Keep it up ! ... you can post'em here or you can message me if you want, I'm always ready for a road ride

I think the speed depend of the road or what you want to show or just the road conditions ( skiping traffic jams )

Per example, I would go with normal speed or 1,5x for Old quebec city ...there is too much architectural details that you should never skip.

2x would be perfect for the Ottawa river parkway. It's halfway between a boulevard and a Expressway.

It varies.

50x for farmland outside of London. It looks the same...for hours. especially 401 between Kitchener and Windsor. Yawners.

They are really going to town on the Conestoga Parkway. I love the new ramp that they have built from NB Fischer/Hallman to Hwy 7/8 east. Hwy 7/8 is going to be a nice six lane highway once construction has been completed.

I was surprised to see the median barrier replaced between the through and local lanes at Hwy 85. For one, I wouldn't think a high intensity barrier would be warranted there, and second, depending upon the final configuration of the Hwy 7 freeway (assuming it ever goes), the C/D system through there will likely be obsolete anyways.

I think those are just temporary construction medians. I'm not sure what the old rusted guardrails will be replaced with. It could be a concrete median, it could be a shiny new guardrail that will once again rust out

From the plans I've seen, the Highway 7 freeway will be accessed from the collector lanes.

Some designs:

It wouldn't rust nearly as fast, if ever, if they chose to go with stainless steel guard rails

Unfortunately Ontario likes to go with regular old galvanized steel for some reason. At least the areas that I saw (403 through Hamilton)

Maybe. The MTO's never gotten past preliminary design with that interchange, so the lane configuration on the current highway shown on those sketches might not be final.

In my view, it depends if they need to replace any of the existing overpasses to build the new Hwy 7 interchange. If they do, a good case could be made for replacing all of the structures and getting rid of the collector lanes.

MTO used to love the steel guard rails, but recent renos have been replacing them with Jersey barriers. (see the 427 reno for an example)

Well judging from these designs it doesn't look like it... The flyovers will just go above the existing structure.
-Also I'm looking forward to your videos!

As for the whole gaurdrail debate, I prefer the concrete median / Ontario Tall Wall / Jersey Barrier. First of all they don't rust out and they tend to be safer... Which is something I want if a truck decides to smash into it

Maybe. The existing structure carrying Wellington over the Parkway isn't really a problem. It's the GEXR and Victoria Street overpasses. Unless the MTO decides to built a trumpet, the future west to south flyover is seriously constrained by both the GEXR and Victoria Street structures. Either the MTO builds a single lane flyover for this movement with a very sharp curve, or they built a more appropriate flyover and replace those structures.

Central Region is currently replacing a few cast in place girder bridges of similar vintage in Niagara Region due to their poor condition. (ie. Seventh Street Louth over QEW in St. Catharines, and both Pine Street and Queen Street over Hwy 58 in Thorold). While the Wellington Street overpasses have been rehabilitated, they are a similar thin slabbed cast in place design, so it wouldn't surprise me if that had to be replaced at some point as well. The Frederick Street structure is similar to Wellington and has yet to be rehabilitated.

One more timelapse driving video: This time continuing on the 401 from Highway 403 to Highway 8 and into Kitchener.

Video Link

Skip to 5:30 if you just want to see the Kitchener part.

The lack of a flyover ramp from 401 eastbound to 8 northbound is a real pain. Its not like the 8 can't handle the extra traffic now that it is 8 lanes.

That's not the case with I-5 near Mount Vernon area. The concrete surface was so loud and so rough that every time we go down there, we always decide to take a long detour using local roads to avoid that area. Crossing the border onto Hwy 99 is always a big relief because of the smoother asphalt pavement...
