It's not an easy word to spell based on my experience. Until I turned 18 my name was always spelled- Mike.

My first name's never been a problem, its always been my last name (frequently mispelled as Stabb or Staub) or mispronounced as "Stab"

So it's like Saab, but with a T (in both spelling and pronunciation)?

With my last name of Chouinard I finally gave up and let people pronounce it any way they want. The Canadian pronunciation
is SCHWE-nard. The American pronunciation is sha-NARD. When I was growing up all my friends just called me a one syllable SHNARD......
....Or Shit-Yard. Kids are soooo fucking funny.

The funny thing is that I have very common first and last names, but no one ever misspells my middle name - DeWayne and most even remember to capitalize the "W"

Looking at it phonetically, I thought it was pronounced "Chow-i-nard"

Man, Texas must be really in the shit. My dad is selling all of his hay out on the farm for big bucks to a rancher who is driving all the way to Missouri because grass won't grow down there anymore.

I just got back to my house today, and the property management guy locked my bedroom door (there is no key for it). I think he put most of my stuff in there too, because there is plenty missing, but not things that would have been stolen (S&P shakers, wall tacks, cereal, canned food, etc).

So unless I learn how to pick a lock tonight, I'll have to have a locksmith come and let me into my bedroom tomorrow.

That's what most people think the first time they see it. My teachers called me that throughout public schooling. I also gave up correcting them. Some people get the silent "i" thing but still mess up the first part so I'm CHOW-nard.

AAUUUURRRRGGHHH!!! I have GOT to get out of this Goddamn, old, crappy, fucking building!!! Hell, I'd sell my unit completely furnished just to get the hell out!!! Old wiring, unclogging the drains AT LEAST once a month, no elevator, clothes driers that don't work every other time I use them, ongoing, never ending maintenance......Pardon me, I need to go kill something.

Sounding out a word and pronouncing it correctly are two different things. I sound words out in some very odd ways to make sure I spell them correctly, for example "pronunciation" is "pro-nun-see-ation", to remind me not to spell it "pronounciation".

And the i in Chouinard is not silent. If you change the orthography to English it would be Shwenard, and the ou is a w while the i is an e. The American pronunciation is making the ou silent, not the i.

It's a schwa [ə], which can be represented by any vowel.

Taking the kids to get Apple Pucker? Shameful! Who the hell of legal age drinks that shit, let alone a grown ass man!
Maybe he was buying it for his kids.
