Everything that's above ground really doesn't show the complicated-ness of the behind the scenes stuff.

2020 sounds rather pessimistic, doesn't it? I'm not sure about that. Otherwise, this is a great video.

I think the 2020 date is just the PAC being developed late. I can't imagine that T2 and T3 wouldn't be occupied by then. Everything else would pretty much be done.

West Street construction equipment is gone for the most part or moved.

Wow it really has been cleaned up!

Just out of curiosity what are those two odd shape small buildings? I have yet to see any map that lists them and saw last fall when I visited that they're built with a solid concrete core. Are they for HVAC exhaust of the museum below, West St. Security entrance points, or something else?

^^ looking at that pic, it really brings home how those structures will serve a noise dampening function as well. Every review I have read of the Memorial so far mentions that even with the construction, there is a fair amount of quiet. I imagine that when all is done, most of the noise will be from 9A.

They're intake/exhausts for the entire substructure, including PATH, the mall, and the memorial.

Haven't been on the forums in a while. I missed ALOT. Anyways, I made a little 3D virtual tour of the 9/11 Memorial today:

Good news, people: The Tribute in Light art installation will make its presence this anniversary.

Look | Behind the Scenes of the Preparations for the Tribute in Light | Slideshow

By Stephen Nessen
Quote:
On the rooftop of a parking garage in Lower Manhattan, about 30 electricians, stagehands and lighting technicians are setting up what is now an annual tradition: shifting 88 searchlights into position to create the the now-iconic "Tribute in Light."

On September 11, the skyline will be joined by two powerful beams of light, a piece of public art that pays tribute to the losses of 9/11.

The "Tribute in Light" began as a temporary installation in March 2002, but has become a yearly tradition.

The Municipal Arts Society, which funds the project, has begun asking for donations online to help continue funding the project. Michael Ahearn, one of the creators of the lights, said he is confident the exhibition will continue for several more years.

The blue beams, which are reported to be visible for 60 miles, are comprised of 88 separate 7,000-watt searchlights, which are powered by a gas-run generator housed in a tractor trailer just outside of the parking garage.

The New York City Audubon Society has noted that the powerful lights can disrupt migratory bird patterns, and Ahern said they will be monitoring the exhibit and will periodically shut off the lights, so birds can continue on their migratory routes.

The searchlights remain in the parking garage when not in use.

The lights still need to be calibrated or "perpendicularly integrated," so New Yorkers may be able to see some lights on Saturday night, and again on Tuesday night. On September 11, they will be fully in place.

Yes, but reservation is required. There are few areas of the plaza that will remain closed, including the northestern part of the memorial, since there is still work to do underground.

You'll need a visitor pass to enter, and you can reserve them without cost online on the 9/11 Memorial website.
