Wow! I guess they didn't wrap the gravel in geotextile before placing the armour stone layers.

I had originally thought that this park was a cool idea, I saw a lot of exposed bedrock and some plantings and thought it was going to be good for the river bank.

But now I see that it's just going to be another washed away thing during the next flood, and then next and the next, and it'll be 'closed' to the public indefinitely within the next few years.

Can't we just plant a bunch of sumac and cedar in the gravel and be done with it? Why's it gotta be fancy?

Edit: better yet, just spread a bunch of buckthorn seed everywhere. That otta do the trick.

Why would anybody want to walk through Zibi at the present time? I did it today. My friend wanted to turn around. It is one big construction zone and a total mess. The walkway from Chaudiere to the Portage Bridge was washed out and obviously closed. It will get a whole lot better in the future but it will be a while.

Exactly - it's a construction zone. Honestly, what does one expect?

That yellowish stone doesn’t look natural to the area’s geology. Kind of looks like chalky sandstone from the Prairies.I have a hard time seeing how it will blend in properly.

I am not a geologist, but that rock (with iron oxide staining) is actually quite common in this area.

I am a geologist and it does indeed look like sandstone. And yes @skisaik it is rich in iron. Sandstone units are less common, but present, in the ottawa valley area. However most rock units are calcaeroeus in nature ranging from limeshale,mudstone or just plain old limestone. Sometimes if you’re on the right area of mini fault you could get some sandstone indicating the ground was above sea level. You can see this well on Russell road in the south end. Sorry for nerding out.

I'm pretty sure they used the same stone on the Victoria Island 2 or 3 years ago. Looking at it now, it seems to have blended in, even though you can still see some rust streaks here and there.

This is funny, went for some kayaking around and noticed they are rebuilding those washed-out steps as we speak. I guess being able to test things up before signing off, is an upside of a year-long delay.

Quality difference between Ottawa and Hull is jarring. And it's not like the Hull apartments are much cheaper than Ottawa.

I may have missed it, but I don't believe Zibi has announced rates for Block 206, which will be its first Ottawa residential rental building.

The cladding is now going up on block 207; they are starting on the side facing the interior courtyard.

Sorry, no photos; but, the rendering below is fairly accurate in terms of the colour and style; reddish-brown, almost copper-like vertical slats.

Gatineau in general has been catching up to Ottawa pretty quickly. I'd say it's now at least as expensive as Ottawa 5 years ago.

The new tower in Ottawa will be coop, at least, part of it, so people will be renting rooms instead of apartments. Probably far more money to be made that way, while somehow offering more "affordable" options.
