Sure hope it lowers into a cradle but I doubt it. Also think that thing is there to stay. I don't know why they couldn't have come up with a better Idea to wash windows. Imagine the guy that pays mutli millions for the Penthouse and its roof top garden only to have this things swinging over your head with dirty water buckets sloshing on you. Either way any way we can figure what the height would be with this thing? Hey at least its not like the one on the pink building. Little tid bit about that one...a company I worked for built that ugly washer crane on the pink building and the made it from a recycled tower crane! way to cut costs.

Wishful thinking on the cradle bit.
The long side of the arm looks like it retracts though.
Maybe they'll install antennas on it too?

I shake my head when I look up at this $ 400 million tower and there's ugly telephone poles across the street

I shake my head when I hear people comment on things that are out of the developers hands.

Great photo entheosfog.

Look how visible the window washing arm is! I agree, I really hope it retracts somehow, because it makes the building look silly. Particularly because this is a landmark building for our city and the most prominent feature at the top is a huge mechanical arm to wash windows? Lol.

I am sorry! I might miss it somewhere, is it for sure that little crane like arm is for window washing? Why don't the other towers have ones? It would be nice if this arm could be extend vertically making it looks more like an antenna style structure. It would look neater that way and adding more height to the building as well.

Hey if there is no possible way of retracting it, I think that making it expand into a antenna would be the best option.

Very nice entheosfog!

I am amazed this photo of mine turned out at all since the reflection off of the Shangri-La was absolutely blinding.

Thanks thanks and thanks!
I go up that road all the time for my job and Shang. always sticks out from that vantage point. The extra height really makes it stand out no matter how far away you look at it.

Most condo towers use window washers on ropes - but because this tower is so tall - it needs more infrastructure.
Office towers have window washing cranes up top, but have mechanical penthouses that hide the equipment. The top of Shangri-La has residential penthouses, so they can't install a track around the rim of the roof and shed for the equipment.
One Wall Centre doesn't have condos on teh roof, so it's window washing crane can run on a track around the rim of the roof.

How risky is this maneuver they're doing Saturday morning dismantling the crane boom and lowering down the pieces. What are the risks of a drop or accident?

Either they drop something or they don't.

PS don't worry about the arm guys it will not be visisble once the building is complete.

Right on, thanks. Didn't think something like that would be overlooked, and methinks the penthouse owners would have a say in the matter.

You realize how boring the removal of a crane is right ?

And not very likely at all.

The last piece will be removed between 7am-10am on Sunday morning, incase someone thinks that's more exciting then sleeping in.
