The City informed the District that it is not confident the building will be ready for occupancy in fall 2025, as previously expected. The City’s goal is for the school to be complete and ready for students for the start of the 2026-2027 school year, while aiming for construction completion in the spring. Should completion occur sooner, we would move students in at the earliest feasible time.
Granville Street social housing, subject of countless complaints and emergency calls, will close by June 2026
A former hotel-turned-social housing building in Vancouver’s Granville Entertainment District, long the subject of complaints from nearby businesses, will close by June, tenants have been told.
On Thursday, notices from B.C. Housing were posted on the doors of the rooms of the Luugat, the former Howard Johnson Hotel at 1176 Granville St. It was purchased by the province in June 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and converted into social housing.
The notices informed tenants the building “will need to close by the end of June 2026.”
