These were taken a week ago. Few seldomly seen angles. Looking good as far as I am concerned.

My God it was hideous! Actually so ugly, that I never took almost any photos of it, so now I won't have it possible to take good before-and-after photos.

I find it intriguing that Nordstrom won't be open for another year yet. Is it a function of the time truly needed to build their space out, or is it a seasonal target they're aiming for?

It's all still bare concrete inside.

I can't recall clearly, but I think Eaton's was closed for a year after Sears took over and renovated.

Was the Robson / Howe entry glass awnings supposed to be curved in the original model - render? Don't recall it being curved... Officedweller?

Surprisingly, yes.

I hadn't noticed that before.

Another disjointed aspect of the design
- that'll be the only curve on the whole building - probably designed to mimick the parking ramp access.

Or I probably did notice because the Nordstrom sign at that entrance is curved:

Thanks officedweller!

Overall the Howe and Robson corner / entrance is the weakest part of the whole building. From a design perspective it's a bit of a mess. Too bad they're building off the bevelled 1999 re-do eaton's/Sears corner, the original EATON'S 'square' corner looked great.

It's both. Nordstrom will be doing a very extensive build-out, but they also have only a couple openings a year for merchandising the space so they need to hit one of those. If they wanted they could probably open sometime mid summer, but that would not line up with their internal store stocking calendar.

Exactly, it is supposed to mimic the Howe/Robson ramp and also provides Norstrom with an opportunity to have a curved sign hit multiple sightlines.

Any chance the ceiling of the Howe / Robson corner (under the overhang) will be wooden slats like the canopy soffits?
That would bring it up a notch.

i think they were really limited by those 2 concrete columns and beams, though it didn't help that they extended the entrance further out leaving less covered exterior space.

Originally, Eaton's had a collonnade on that corner, with the entrance further down Robson St. That provided a long wall of display windows and separated the flurry of the entering/exiting crowds away from the parking ramp. As it is now, people exiting the store will see the pedestrian light, make a dash without regard for the ramp.

Corner entrances may be convenient, but they tend to create a lot of congestion at the corner. i.e. Compare with the Hudson's Bay building (Granville & Georgia) which also has high pedestrian volumes, but does well without a corner recess or plaza.
