That's a rendering for L.A. Live. That's not the actual project.

This is what Reed said back in October.

“I think in the next 120 to perhaps 180 days you’ll see a series of announcements related to Atlanta that are just stunning. Let’s look at the block around the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. …You are going to have an 800 (room) hotel that’s coming in between 250 and 350 million, you are going to have between 150 and 250 million going into retrofitting Philips Arena. You’ll probably see residential and commercial construction component around Philips Arena between 500 million and a billion.”
http://business.blog.myajc.com/2015/10/2...a-500-million-plus-round-of-development/

The rumors I've heard were about the Philip Arena remodel which is a huge project. I'm not sure if the "500 to 1 billion" in development around the arena is part of it or a different project altogether.

South Downtown is slowly but surely gaining traction with a new arts district (not Castleberry Hill) that the Goat Farm has been backing lately as a more organic Arts District.

There are several residential projects/conversions either under proposal and/or finishing construction in the coming quarter that will start to bring in more feet to the sidewalks downtown after regular office hours - something more regular than the ebb and flow of tourists/conventions.

Redevelopment of Underground should finally gain some traction after a complex due diligence process so they can finally start construction/financing future phases.

Post's apartments at Centennial should finally break ground once construction costs have stabilized. These will finally bring in some comparables for other residential projects downtown that aren't conversions.
Shout out to the arts on South Broad Street downtown: http://www.southbroadatl.org/

I made the mistake of reading the comments section of the article you linked to on MyAJC.....

Ohhhhhh, I kinda figured it was something prior to that. When I first heard that Hard-Rock was building a hotel near the MBS and Phillips Arena, that's when figured it out. But that hotel side of Downtown is going to be lit up with lights at night (skyview, skyfall, Centennial Park,Phillips,MBS,Hard Rock hotel).I can't wait to fly over it in a couple of years from now!

Retail page is up for Hanover Buckhead Village, shows construction estimated to complete Sept. 2017 and two retail spaces amenable to being subdivided.

Ambitious, five-tower project planned for Sandy Springs

Developers are proposing an impressive, albeit ambitious, mixed-use project that could include up to five office and residential towers around the Sandy Springs MARTA station. The project at 1117 Perimeter Center West would rise amid existing office buildings and shopping centers clustered just east of Ga. 400 in Sandy Springs. The developers of 1117 Perimeter Center West are led by principal In Shik Hong, Databank said. The Korean investor and developer is known for dense mixed-use projects and towers in Australia and New Zealand.
The plans would connect the project’s towers and amenities via an underground tunnel to adjacent Sandy Springs MARTA station.

Good luck, aren't the NIMBY's in perimeter already getting antsy and fighting large developments. I heard the Hines mixed use was neutered as a result. So I am skeptical something that massive could come to Perimeter. Although it is nice to see parking bite the dust regardless of the part of town it is in.

Agreed. Also, it's nice to see the direct connection the MARTA.

Even if the development is scaled shorter, it will be a vast improvement.

NIMBY isn't the right word for Perimeter - realists is.

Perimeter is a train wreck. The area can't accommodate this. This is why the metro is the mess that it is.

I guess the real world impact doesn't matter much to kids who only care about skyscrapers and not sound growth and development. Sigh.

The fact that it is right by the MARTA station makes it more practical than if it were miles away from mass transit. There's really no reason for large scale developments like this not to surround every MARTA stop. If people's final destination were basically attached to a MARTA station, I think MARTA ridership would increase significantly and the overall impact on road traffic would be minimal.

The problem is that many people wouldn't be able to utilize MARTA.

Having density surrounding transit stations is a great concept, but you can't take this out of the context that is Perimeter. Most people will be in cars and the area is truly a mess that shouldn't exist.

The quickest way to get more Perimeter office workers to stop driving is to make them start paying for parking.

That ship has sailed. Make us pay. Great. Now you have thousands of Perimeters workers paying to park and still congested.

If that got more companies to relocate downtown. Awesome, but Perimeter and Buckhead for that matter, exist because too many here rather this insane non urban sprawl instead of working downtown.
