Here's a quick shot from the Skytrain today of the new landscaping/temporary park in NE False Creek.

The only thing dumber than temporary housing is a temporary park. Just do it once, correctly, when the money is there.

Agreed. In this example, Concord should have built it 15 years ago though.

Just a reminder of why that couldn't happen. This part of North East False Creek has some of the most contaminated soil in the city. Existing legal agreements between the Province, the City and Concord require
that Creekside Park extension accommodate contaminated soil from the adjacent development parcel 6c and changes to existing parcel boundaries or use be agreed to by all three parties.

To quote the City's report "The Province is responsible for remediation costs associated with Concord Pacific’s development of Sub-area 6C over those lands presently owned by Concord Pacific that they purchased from the Province and the Province has the right to relocate, subject to City agreement on quantities and location, contaminated soil from Concord Pacific’s Area 6C and the Abbott Street Outfall into Creekside Park, or within certain City lands designated as road."

Andy Livingstone Park and David Lam Park are already designed to cover heavily contaminated land. The final Creekside Park will be the same. It could be quite a while before that final park is built, and with all the fuss from Citygate about it not being built, Concord have provided the temporary park.

There is a mad scramble right now for the City to "fulfill their promises" before the current administration's term is over: Mass rezoning, Modular Housing and then this park, among other things. It's all just for show instead of anything of real substance, and pretty much the same way they run this city all these years: resting on their laurels until the very last minute.

1290 Homer St - UDP

Quote:
The Birthplace of Fine Wine and Architecture – Yaletown Heritage Restoration Narrowly Escapes Defeat at the UDP

1290 Homer Street
When this proposed 3 floor addition to the Macpherson & Teetzel Company building was reviewed by Vancouver’s Heritage Commission in July, it faced a somewhat mixed reception. No one argued the restoration wasn’t well handled, but they were split on whether it was better for the addition to be clad in a lighter tone, or if a darker material would be a better choice. While the model still appears to show the lighter wood tone, it seems the applicant has decided to clad the addition with a dark red panelling instead.

While that decision still proved controversial, the biggest aspect that divided the panel was which members had previously worked in the building. It turns out that more than a few panellists had spent part of their careers in these offices. One person even revealed that, after moving to Vancouver, the first firm they worked for was located in this building. These rags to riches stories continued, as another member spoke of their experience sharing the building with one of the founders of Mission Hill Winery. They expressed their view that buildings are just buildings, while heritage is found in people and stories. In that spirit, it’s only appropriate that the ground floor is currently home to the international firm, Ryder architecture. However, to one member’s disappointment, that is unlikely to last as the applicant plans to turn that area into a restaurant space instead.

Not sure how I feel about these bolt-ons, but the area could use some density...

Ontop of that, what happens when they want to tear it down? People are going to be beyond angry as they have been asking for this exact green-space for years. This is some kind of cruel cock-tease, if ya ask me!

It is ugly to the max, and low in density. Needless to say, UDP approves of it. The addition is "well handled"....LOL.

It sure is. The addition completely dominates and "squashes" the historic building. Not sympathetic at all.

Has this been mentioned before with regard to the BIG project beside BC Place?

Quote:
It seems that BIG doesn’t do run-of-the-mill power plants; another plan for Vancouver dubbed the ‘Green House’ proposes to utilize the by-products of energy production to power a massive greenhouse on top of the building—the harvest to supply local restaurants with fresh produce.

800 Georgia sold for $225 million
Quote:
Toronto’s Crestpoint Real Estate Investment has purchased a Vancouver Class A office building for approximately $225 million, or more than $1,000 per square foot.

The office and retail property at 800 Georgia Street, previously owned by Oxford Properties and CPP Investment Board, is a 19-story building with five ground level retail units. Canadian retailer Lululemon anchors the retail units and the federal government leases the office space.
