^There are other towers like it in the US, though, not exactly like it. But you can find some in New York - mostly I'm thinking of the Hudson Yards development. Still, sloped towers aren't too common in Austin, so it will be a nice change. I think that building from certain angles will really command the skyline more than any others have so far.

Anyway, the parapet of Block 185 will be a major fixture of our skyline. I'm especially curious to see how the sunlight plays with it.

I was one of the few that said that this tower would dominate the skyline and really make an impression. Well, it's looking like it is.

I feel the same about The Republic. It's gonna make a significant mark on the skyline as well.

Oof this hurts because its accurate. The republic's good looking and all but 185 is in a different class. I think it counts as starchitecture.

I guess I'm a "glass is half-empty" kind of guy, because I look at images like this and all I see are ugly gaps in our skyline.

I love this view. It just changes too much. I have a similar picture I took a few years ago. I made it into a 20x30 picture and have it on my wall. The Independent was half built then.

^Great pics!

Towers has a nice article on the topping out of Block 185, complete with a construction tour and photos of the views.

The photo looking north toward 360 Condos shows the demolished Castle Hill project site.

I guess they don't consider the top of the sail being installed as part of topping out?

Traditionally, they consider the building to be topped out when the structural frame of the building is complete.

I remember they did the same for the Frost Bank Tower before any of the crown framing was constructed.

Very nice. Here's a smaller version of the last photo - looks like dense city.

Nice pics, everyone. Thanks.

Does anyone know if the city has plans to remove the silt that has been building up in the river, from Shoal Creek? The silt and the surface scum are getting to be quite an eye sore...

the surface scum is the algae bloom that is making dogs sick. They are working on it but my understanding is commercial interests upstream are the cause.
