Hudson's second retailer announced:

Tecovas to open store at Hudson’s Detroit office building

Quote:

DETROIT – The second retail tenant at Hudson’s Detroit office building has been announced.
Tecovas, a western-style clothing brand, will take space on the ground floor of Hudson’s Detroit on Woodward Avenue. The store will sell boots, denim, specialty accessories and more.

It will be Tecovas’ first Michigan store.

I stopped by the site today. The Block's back entrance was no longer sealed off. It was locked but I wonder if it's open to the public on weekdays.

On the other hand the entrance to the Tower is far from done:

Nice pics! The one interior lobby shot looks nice but surprisingly generic. Kind of expected it to resemble the outside facade a little bit more, but I suppose the expectation is it will be filled with TVs and signs anyway. That facade is a beauty though.

Kind of. The other thing the aerial views show is that there's still a lot of surface parking that has yet to be filled in. There's still a lot of room for downtown to grow and densify even without the Monroe Blocks.

As the only tall glass curtain building in the middle of a sea of historic beauties, it stands out. The lines feel deliberate and intentional, working with the surrounding structures to heighten the effect. Sure, the Renaissance Center looms off to the side, separate and hulking, looking dark and foreboding. But it always looks like that.

Hudson is different. Its appearance shifts with the weather. It's a chameleon. When the sky is heavy and gray, Hudson is a moody teenager in the backseat on a road trip with her grandparents, doing her best to blend in. In the midday sun, it becomes a young man in a crisp business suit, climbing the corporate ladder and vying for attention. When golden hour arrives on a clear day, it turns into a glowing presence at a summer wedding, full of light and impossible to ignore.

Businessman Dan Gilbert’s Bedrock real estate team building the project didn’t think so. So they pushed for something more recognizably Motor City, as explained by James Witherspoon, Bedrock’s VP of Architecture and Design.

The goal, he said, was to create a building that users and visitors would experience, not just gawk at. Emphasis was put on the functionality of the interior spaces, like the colossal yet minutely detailed “Department” or public event space. So flexible and spacious are these event spaces, with all the electronic bells and whistles seamlessly integrated, that anything from small meetings to weddings to major conventions can be hosted and feel right at home.

Bedrock finishes its work on Hudson's Detroit office building
