huh??? I think that you would be hard pressed to find a finer collection of modern skyscrapers in such a compressed location (Lujiazui), anywhere else in the world. Jin Mao and SWFC are stellar structures.

You mean the building that was named building of the year in 2008, the year it opened? That building?

Holy crap that is a shitload of change in such a short amount of time. I don't think even NYC managed change that much in a time frame during the early 1900's.

You should see the view from the other direction:

By the mid noughties Shanghai was having to build as much highrise space as Manhattan every year, in order to house nearly 10,000 newcomers a day.

Shanghai is unreal. From my travels, the only city that perhaps has it beat in terms of the sheer number of skyscrapers is Hong Kong.

I think someone should retake that shot (and some from a few other angles), as that picture is already a year or two old and probably outdated by now. Lol

That pic is actually about 5 years out of date, which is an aeon on Shanghai's terms.

2013.

Epic Aerial Photos of central Shanghai by radics.geza from flickr (bear in mind it only shows one portion of the city, most of the Pudong half and all the highrise outskirts are missing )
