For better or for worse, they will also make a killing on cigarette sales, given that CVS no longer sells them. They will also make a nice profit from booze sales, although the CVS sells booze now too.

That's great news! Azure on the Park, Alta at the Park and Yoo on the Park. Having three new apartment towers on 11th, 12th and 13th streets respectively in between Piedmont and Juniper will really change that part of midtown.

I can't wait for them to re-do the crumbling sidewalk on 11th. It's one of the worst sidewalks in the city. I walk it every day between my condo and the gym. It's a miracle that I haven't tripped and broken something.

You should report it on the city's 311 system:
http://www.atl311.com/?page_id=115&atlId=1-3JRDQ&_crauth=20e338d958
There are a lot of broken/missing sidewalks around the city, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I went to one of the Midtown Neighbors Association's Midtown Mingle events and spoke directly to my councilman and his staff about it. They didn't seem overly concerned. Maybe they're waiting to fix it until the Azure on the Park construction is finished.

I can confirm that they already blocked off access to the parking lot at this site. It looks like they will begin demolishing the existing building very soon.

I forgot about Alta on the Park honestly. What buildings are being destroyed for it to rise? I hope it's not the white apartment building on the edge of 12th and Piedmont. I really like that building.

The white building you're referring to will not be demolished. It's not part of the lot Alta is going on.

There are some really beautiful old apartment/condo buildings around Piedmont Park. I hope those will be preserved for a long time...Atlanta needs those buildings mixed in with the high rises to keep some of its character.

I walk it everyday back and forth to work, and when it rains it's like going through a tough mudder course to get up and down the street.

I'm pretty sure those stay, as they should. They have too much charm to ever tear down. I think they may be tearing down one or two of the really run down buildings on the hill with the parking lots behind and between them.

Ironically, I think the "Midtown Mile" portion of Peachtree could be bricked over and made strictly pedestrian! It's not even a necessary street for cars when you have Piedmont, Juniper, West Peach and Spring Street all around it.

...plus MARTA running along beside it. I think that's a great idea - it could be Midtown's version of Broad Street. I usually avoid Peachtree if possible and use the other parallel streets.

Seventh Midtown is finally working on the sidewalk now so hopefully the closed off sidewalk's days are numbered. We need better regulations to force developers not to close off so much sidewalks.

Agreed, although Seventh had done the best job compared to other developers by having a 3' wide walkway with scaffolding protecting the public during the vast majority of it's construction. Atlantic House and Peachtree@5th are the current bad neighbors.

Aside from the scary-as-hell-at-1am Walgreens at Piedmont & North, there are no 24 HR businesses in Midtown. I would fully welcome just about anything that is open 24/7 in Midtown.

The Hampton Inn and Suites by Arts Center Station has filed for its land development permit so that looks to be moving forward

525 North has published floorplans for the building:

Listed below is the Google Street View link for the building they are demolishing. They removed the windows and gutted it today. Should be coming down very soon.

Here's hoping 525 North Ave continues to progress. The project would do wonders stitching together the eastern neighborhoods with midtown/downtown and will be huge if we ever have dedicated transit lanes on north ave.

I know it's just working plans, but just who are they going to be putting in that building? it's full of those little telemarketing cubicle-ettes. I'd hate to work on those floors.

I deal with this all the time and we are rolling this type of space out around my company. That is the office trend - smaller personal workspace and more shared collaborative spaces. The idea is to provide a variety of types of spaces that people can work, not just at their desks, and also increase chances for interactions between people. It is difficult to get this formula right, and there must be considerations for acoustic privacy in some areas and clustering open workstation into "neighborhoods". This tends to be a solution for tech and creative groups. It is an exercise in human nature, and some people (usually older) tend to have a hard time adapting. Interesting that this type of workspace tends to be more expensive than the old-style perimeter window offices and interior cubicles - higher-end finishes, better furniture and lots more glass. Definitely more personal and intimate - I guess it depends on how much we like our co-workers!
