Something feels weird that they would draw so much attention to rebuilding an old bar to the point of building a rather good looking apartment building on top. But nothing about the bar strikes me as particularly interesting or unique. Seems like they’re putting a lot of expectations on that bar being a big draw.
I wonder if the bar is worth the hype or why even focus the development on it?

Nick's was a hangout for generations of New Orleanians, and drew people from all over the city. But if they're planning on trading on the nostalgia for the place I think they're going to be disappointed. It won't be the same place at all, but 14 years later nobody who used to frequent it would want to go to a dive bar anyway. So the best they can hope for is to tap into the market created by Bayou Beer/Wine Garden, Finn McCool's etc. that's made Mid-City such a nightlife center. How that ties into building some presumably high-end apartments on top of the place I don't know.
