When demolition begins on the current building, my excitement will go up another level. And another level when the base starts to rise. Then the base, followed by the halfway mark (topping Met Life), then finally the crown. A lot to look forward to.

Yeah and don’t forget the first glass and facade panels installation.

What about 343 Madison, Tower Fifth, 350 Park Avenue and 80 South Street?
What about them?

Interesting. I like some of those designs, but I think I prefer the current one we're getting.

Wow I think the fifth rendering of early SOM designs is by far the coolest, even a bit better than the current.
The fifth design truly gives me the idea of a high budget sci-fi movie!❤
Bottom left is really great. Looks very Norman Foster. Top right looks like it evolved into what we have now. I think I like the design we have now best though!

I don't see evolution into the current great design... Based on NYC's wretched value-engineering history I see 2 or 3 options to devolve the current design into when the developers accountants take over from the marketing department.

Top right is the design the current design evolved from, New York office.

Then you aren´t looking that hard. Top, third to the right. It´s pretty obvious.
Also you´re 100% wrong on the second part.

Contrary to popular belief not every design change is due to “value engineering”. We have to move past leaping to that as the reason that things change.
I think the first is quite good, the second is ugly, the third is beautiful and quite similar to the current design, the fourth is outdated and too similar to foster design, the fifth is freaking beautiful and the sixth I don't know.
