Part of Hudson's officially opens:

Bedrock opens The Department at Hudson's event venue

Bedrock has opened its latest event venue, The Department at Hudson’s, with 56,000 square feet covering more than 15 meeting and event spaces at Hudson’s Detroit.

The Department is available to book for events and gatherings in downtown Detroit, the firm said Wednesday.

Hudson's looks a bit taller than the Ren Cen from this angle. Of course, its just perspective and the close enough differences in terrain height.

Isn't the Ren Cen's base about 100 feet lower than the rest of downtown?

Not that big. It's more around 20 to 30 feet. I think some topographic maps show a steep hill under the Penobscot Building but it seems to be an error.

For the most part, the Ren Cen is around 575 ft (above sea level) while most of downtown is around 610 ft at most.

Watching the Tigers, and this tower looms over Comerica Park. One of the best ballpark views in the country got even better.

(This is one area my White Sox cannot compete in, especially since our stadium points the opposite direction.)

Nope, it's just the north side with setbacks, the south side is completely flat.

what I love about the Detroit skyline is how the older beauties still hold their own (not overwhelmed or blocked out by the newer buildings, as is the case in lower Manhattan).

First retailer revealed in Gilbert's Hudson's project

Additional details, such as the square footage of the store, were not immediately available. An email was sent to spokespeople for both Bedrock and Alo on Friday afternoon. Alo Yoga has a store in Somerset Collection in Troy, although it's not known whether that store is relocating to downtown or whether the Hudson's Detroit location will be a second outpost for the company.

Gilbert hasn’t been mum about Bedrock’s desire to bring Alo Yoga to downtown. He referenced the Beverly Hills, Calif.-based retailer 18 months ago when rattling off retailers he’d like to lure to the central business district. Others included Apple (which is confirmed to be opening a store); Levi’s, Lego and the Lush cosmetics brand.
