lol, you don't fudge foundations. You can skimp on interior materials, or go cheap on a curtain wall - but, unless you're willing to go to jail for killing thousands of people from negligence you don't cut corners in this aspect.

The pour is supposed to be next month right?

I met a guy on vacation who serviced copiers/printers and he said he had done work for the contractor at this site. He said there have been several contractor changes (I presume replacements of subs since the GC is the same to my knowledge) and it was way behind schedule based on what he heard while talking to folks there.

phila biz journal has a story about the preparations for the big pour and they point out this will be city's tallest concrete building- something I hadn't thought of before. Unfortunately, the story is for subscribers so us regular folks can't read it.

I went by the site today and noticed they were running two colors of flexible tubing (like pex plumbing tubes) all over the site in between some of the rebar. Anyone know why?

Sometimes on larger pours, these lines are added to circulate water after the pour. The chemical reaction of the concrete curing results in heat. This heat can weaken the concrete and result in cracking. Cooling the reaction artificially is the only option on huge pours like this.

The Hoover dam comes to mind as a project with such a large pour that it would have never been possible without the aid of additional cooling.

The company that is performing the pour seems to be directly violating the terms outlining the times they will be conducting the pour that were agreed upon with the Residences. The Residences have filed a complaint that could result in a possible temporary restraining order to delay the pour until the pouring company complies with the agreement.

well that's just great. I'm sure they will do whatever it takes to clear it up because rescheduling this many concrete trucks and plants can't be easy.

no, its supposed to be this weekend. More equipment is on site now. They have installed a portable container with a water tank and a portable chiller to cool the water they want to circulate through the slab. This equipment is now sitting on chestnut street and piping is being installed. I also saw a truck dropping off concrete tubing for the pumping operation.

Starting the big pour. Unfortunately, I'm heading to the shore tomorrow morning to celebrate my birthday, so I can't stay up all night taking pictures. I'll take some more when the cement trucks arrive, but then it's bedtime. It kind of looks like Tycho Monolith site from the movie "2001".
