Well, I was one of those people who did admire the volume of the original WTC towers. It wasn't just the height that was impressive, it was its girth. Out-of-towners were always so focused on how tall they were that they were always surprised when they would go near them and discover how BIG they really were. They always expected them to be thinner (just goes to show you how tall they really were, that they looked skinny but were really quite "fat").
And, since they didn't taper at all, the "bigness" was more pronounced as the person looked up at them.
Anyway, since I do believe the footprint of FT is that same, I'm satisfied.
