Baroque lasted less than a year, hopefully this Zen lounge last as long as liquid kitty.

Their website just links to a job posting offering 'competitive wages' of $12.20 to $14.00 an hour. What is that competitive with, illegal labour? It's literally the bare minimum they're allowed to pay.

I keep seeing Union Chicken mentioned, but I'm not sure what this means. Is there one opening here?

Uncle Rays is owned by the same guy so it wouldn't surprise me if he just swapped one concept for another.

Hamilton’s Caro Restaurant just announced that they’re not only expanding, but going in completely new directions with a new restaurant project on Locke Street: Victoria’s.

Hm, Locke and King eh? That area is starting to really shape up. LRT will make that area killer. I wonder if it's the Rolly Rocket location?

So I'm guessing this is either the S-W or S-E corner then.

It seems a few businesses are getting ahead of LRT and development. Speaking to Ark & Anchor that's exactly why they located where they are. Platinum and the kitty corner development, and the LRT stop.

They will be picking a consortium this fall, and after that it's essentially full steam ahead with pre work beginning in 2020, and digging starting in 2021. By 2022 another election will be around the corner, so as long as they start it before then, we'll not have it cancelled in hopes of balancing the budget.

Supposedly those properties are going to be started to be demolished starting this year according to the latest Spec article.

A few things happening in Westdale:

Rawlicious (1044 King St W) has closed, and Waypoint Games is opening in its location. http://www.waypointgames.ca/

Dakota Mae (1050 King St W) has closed, and The Alley bubble tea is opening in its location. Note that this is directly across the street from another bubble tea shop, OneZo Tapioca. http://www.the-alley.ca/

Kuma's Candy (1008 King St W) has closed, and a cafe is opening here. Not sure the name of this place.

Two once-popular Hamilton restaurants to resume in Ventura’s location on James North
(Hamilton Spectator, Jeff Mahoney, Nov 29 2019)

Once popular but no longer open Hamilton restaurants Rapscallion and Two Black Sheep are being revived under the name Rapscallion & Co. and will occupy the space of the former Ventura's restaurant on James North.

Rapscallion & Co. is scheduled to resume business in full by February or March of 2020, says Erin Dunham, CEO of The Other Bird, the Hamilton-based hospitality group she owns with chef Matt Kershaw. The Other Bird is the parent company of Rapscallion and Co. and several other restaurants, including The Mule taco bar on King William.

Ventura's was recently closed, after being a fixture on James North since the 1980s.

The move was announced at a Hamilton Chamber of Commerce Business After Business event Thursday night (Nov. 28) and was also mentioned on Twitter.

"I'm so excited about this," says Dunham. "We were hoping to do it earlier this year but couldn't find the right location. Then we found out about Ventura's."

The owner, Virgilio Ventura, wanted to retire, she explains. "It's a nice transition and it's like he's passing the flame to us."

She says the two original restaurants, Rapscallion and Two Black Sheep, were closed earlier this year as The Other Bird made preparations to reconfigure them this way. The two will be combined in the one space, with a front bar area and a main dining area.

"It's fabulous how it worked out, having them back open," she says.

Tried out Osten Beer Hall on Cannon near Ottawa. Nice place. Burger was good and quite reasonable at $8. Draught was expensive at $9 for 16 ounces for a lot of beers, but the selection was good and the bottle beer list was large. Good seeing more places like this open east of downtown.

Word is the "Greek Starbucks" is moving in. https://www.mikelcoffee.com Bold move considering you have 2nd Cup, Paisley's, Timmy's, and another small coffee shop right there.
