also since someone mentioned the Peachtree St. bridge improvements i'll post these images again that i was sent by the VP of Planning and Economic Development awhile back.. really gives you a better sense of the integration with the street / sidewalk. i had reached out with my concerns about them executing a faux truss bridge design but these images helped ease my concerns. if it werent for the fact that you can walk under the sculpture i would still be opposed to it.. but it has a level of interactivity this way and will be nice from a pedestrian perspective. i still think it looks too much like a faux truss bridge from the connector though
I believe they had changed the design for the one closer to Downtown so it isn't exactly like the northern one.

A rendering of the apartment building proposed at Peachtree and Terrace. Sounds like they are still working on the site plan.

I've always considered North to the dividing line, but BoA Plaza and Emory insist they're in Midtown. At least North is a clearer line instead of the Connector, which curves.

I like it! I wish more stuff with brick like this would be built. I like for everything to look different. We are starting to have too many concrete and glass looking stuff. Lets mix it up!!!

That was from some press release - so I'm pretty sure that one's older (circa 2014 I believe)

But I do recall some real-estate/development professional event with Central Atlanta Progress President this past summer where he had a rendering of the Peachtree Bridge that looked a bit more different than the Northern one - in lieu of the arches there were pillars more like the ones on 14th street.

FWIW all the Midtown Alliance planning docs and vendor directory includes everything down to the connector.

WSB-TV Has a story on the bridge construction and presented this rendering (forgive the quality of the screenshot) that shows the southern Peachtree bridge a little more reserved with the design.

Did I miss something? This project was only supposed to be 600K SQFT and projected to cost $250 - 350 Million. Now it is a million square feet and costs $1.12 Billion???

Quote:
Atlanta’s economic development agency approved up to $1.12 billion in bond financing for Georgia Tech’s proposed High Performance Computing Center Thursday despite concerns over the size of the tax incentives package being offered to attract the project.

The board of Invest Atlanta passed a resolution authorizing the bond money to help finance the commercial and retail component of the 25-story mixed-use development near Tech Square, to be built by Georgia Tech in partnership with developer Portman Holdings LLC. The 1 million-square-foot project, due to open early in 2018, could accommodate up to 2,500 people.

High Performance Computing Center
4th Street and Spring Street Atlanta, GA 30308
600,000sf office/institutional and retail

Developer: Georgia Tech
Status: Projected
Start Date: TBD
End Date: TBD

"A little more reserved" is putting it mildly.

You're probably thinking of the original version before that hideous Portman design came along:

Not very interesting, but at least it didn't make me want to gouge my eyes out with a spoon... I'm usually the last person to get all dramatic about these things but I honestly can't think of any design I've seen in recent years that's anywhere near as ugly as that new one. I guess it has architectural merit in someone's mind but I'm just not seeing it

Too bad they're securing funding. I was hoping it would fail for one reason or another. I guess I can still pray those renderings were an experiment and the end result will look nothing like them.

It's common in development and construction to refer to a project's total SQ FT, all uses, including parking. The office space alone is 600,000 SQ FT.
The data in this fact sheet is obviously outdated since it preceded the Portman design but this project has always been approximately 1 million SQ FT.

http://www.realestate.gatech.edu/docs/HPCinfosheet.pdf

I am assuming the "up to" $1.12 billion is a mistake by the author and refers to the total value of bonds approved by Invest Atlanta for ALL projects including Post Centennial and the Marta Edgewood-Candler Park station project.

Still, $1 billion seems like a lot for a $350 million project. Apparently they're paying for the entire project and expecting it to cost more than projected. Either that or they're selling 100+ year bonds
