Ah my bad. The lists I consulted still showed it as Northern Natural Gas office building.

I haven't seen it mentioned, work has started on demolition of RWP. They started to take down the canopy over the parking today. We should expect to see demolition work on the building itself start either tomorrow (Saturday) or early next week.

No pictures as I was just driving past.

This is a good sign for Phase 2 of Block 67 beginning within the next year, which is a breath of fresh air considering the uncertainty surrounding other projects right now. Phase 2 will do a lot to help extend the downtown core mass westward, which is a trend I hope will continue. I feel like all the high rise development heading into the future is going to continue to push south and west. You hit a wall with all the church properties to the north, and to the east is a lot of older stuff which I feel like will prevent development for now, but as a lot of those eastern midrise age in the future, we could see another spurt of development push that direction. As mentioned in other comments, those parking lots gotta go, and I hope in the next few years we hear something on those. For quick refreshment purposes, i just wanted to make a list of projects with uncertainty around them, and projects that seem likely to happen or are happening. These are going to be the more high profile projects, not infill.

Currently being developed:
-Astra (UC)
-Worthington (UC)
-Asher Adams Hotel (UC)

Likely to happen
-IMH Hospital at Sears site
-Block 67 Phase 2

Uncertain future
-Hines Main Street Tower
-Sundial
-370 W Temple
-Red Lion Hotel redevelopment
-435 Main

Longterm plans/rumors
-Cascade
-Harmons Tower
-APS tower
-Regent Street Hotel

Let me know what I missed or things i need to change and I'll gather them up and update this list in the future, and try to make necessary updates as news comes through

There is also the Hotel next to Astra. Not sure if that is still in long term plans or if it was cancelled.

Could it be related to the new zoning laws (coming soon I think)? Would that project be allowed by right or at least exempt from design review under the new laws? I find that unlikely and it might be fair to assume it is dead
I believe the new zoning laws are already in place, but it wouldn't prevent a design review.

The other possibility is that they're working on redesigning it, and it's a significant enough redesign that they would've had to go through the design review again anyway.

Wishful thinking, but how cool would it be if they came back with a sleek 500' update. Realistically it might be best if a new developer takes over since the legal battle could continue for some time.

Haha, I prefer that line of thinking. They are just coming back with a 500 footer

Jbash, thank you for compiling that list!

Great news about RWP! That new grocery store and midblock street is going to be big for downtown.

Do we officially have a new tallest?

Great shot!

How many floors left?

A 550-600 footer will do wonders to the skyline

This is a quote from a poster on Reddit (posted 3 days ago)

"It became the tallest building in SLC today with the central elevator core reaching 424 feet. Two more decks left (39 & 40), then structural steel to form the halo around the top. Final height is still TBD."

I totally forgot about the grocery component of WQ2. I moved near pioneer park and gateway ~7mo ago and genuinely my biggest problem has been no large grocery store nearby. I enjoy walking to Harmons but it is a bit too far to carry cold goods on a hot day. There are smaller grocery stores like The Store and Jade Market that are great for convenience but they are very limited and prices are much higher. I find I am still driving frequently for Smiths, Walmart, and Target.

If anyone has any info or wants to speculate, this article mentions the desire for a mid-size grocery store in the West Quarter. Would the downtown Harmon's be considered large or mid-size? IMO, a nice Smith's or Walmart neighborhood market would be life changing. I could maybe get behind a trader joes. I have no knowledge of how these deals work or what is reasonable but just my 2 cents

Anyone know what's going on with Worthington? I see crew showing up every morning but they've stopped pouring any decks above 14 since May. 12 weeks behind schedule in this financing environment can't be good for the developer.

In the recently posted pics you can see they're working on the 22nd floor deck.

Okay, I assumed they were stuck on 14 because that's what Layton's site says, same with "since May." But 14 or 22, I'd swear I haven't seen any vertical progress in a while, definitely not a level per week as they say on their site. Maybe it just strikes me that way because they haven't progressed on the facade.
