Massive firework display off US bank tower. Similar to that of Burj Khalifa but on a much smaller scale.

Oh my God!! It was amazing. My favorite tower being lit up with fireworks like that, and I just so happened to be driving to downtown at the moment. I literally screamed in my at with excitement over seeing this

There was a pretty obvious but very cheesy theme to the choice of music.

What was the music? I take it that it wasn't the Stones' "Paint it Black" (more my generation).

Seriously, overall I think people loved the music.

Streetcar Project releases DEIR

Update on the project, plus new renderings.

I love how in the renderings they show just the single cable, which is never how it looks in real life. While Toronto's streetcar is much more complex and has more wires than we may need, it gives a more realistic view of what to expect, which is a lot more than just a single wire with no support poles.

Onni Group planning to remove the 1970s tumor on the LA Times Building to add apartments.

Finally. Such good news. I loathe that addition. It ruins the original structure.

It seems placement of the maintenance and storage facility is an issue as all proposed lots are well suited to development (even if the current plans for them may or may not happen). The land costs have to be pretty high there. How much more would it cost to build a single-track spur down underneath the 10 and place the facility there instead?

The Portland streetcar cost $23.7 million per mile, so a half mile spur should be around $12 million.

I read this blog every single day and seldom does something prompt me to post like the removal of that hideous addition to the Times Building. I've hated that addition for years.

I really hope we will see a streetcar in Downtown soon.

I know we all have different opinions about this project, but I think it would be great.

Wait so is onni planning on building a tower there?!

If so, do we have any idea yet potentially how big it will be?

No details yet, but as the site is adjacent to a future Downtown Connector site and one block away from a Red/Purple Line station, they could apply for some serious density bonuses, so it could be a lot of units (which it should be). As for height, that's up to them.

Skyspace on Sunday. Some pictures are blurry because I need new glasses and it was a bad smog day. Check non downtown thread for non downtown pics and here's the link to the full album https://flic.kr/s/aHskDd6neK
