Just ran across an article that says the developer of the Garden Hills site on Peachtree has come up with a new plan.

I'm no expert but to my eye it's an improvement. The earlier plan had some odd angles and didn't seem as architecturally cohesive to me.

It finally looks like the stars have aligned for the redevelopment of the former Garden Hills shopping center property to re-emerge as a mixed-use office/retail development, with a hoped-for start of construction in early 2016.

First Post/Construction Cameras

Hey y'all, this is my first post. I've been a long-time lurker on this forum (probably 3 years) and I've just now created an account so I can actually contribute! With that said, I found some webcams for Hanover's projects in Perimeter and West Peachtree, as well as the AC Marriott and a few others like the Grady expansion.

https://www.workzonecam.com/projects/precisionconcrete

Hope this helps!

There's a reason you can pinpoint the era of most buildings at a glance. Trends change over time but pick a decade and pretty much every residence built in that time looks the same. It's only the very high value projects like museums, entertainment venues, and signature office towers that get unique designs. As Seventh shows even $1 million condos don't always turn out special, just respectable.

I'm not sure what to call that "colorless glass with white wedges" look in more recent designs (Eviva, Peachtree and 3rd, AMLI Arts Center) but while it's new and fun now if that trend catches on people will be able to spot a late 10s/early 20s building from miles away and everyone will be complaining about all the "JPX towers" ruining the skyline like they do now about the blue glass and concrete Novare uses. There are only so many ways to put a building together and things are only new once

Not earth shattering-- but MUCH better that the previous 'Adam's Family in Buckhead' design--

There are an infinite number of variations possible with budget and programs-- Though bigger budgets allow for more dynamic architecture in general-- look at the present crop of similarly scaled residential buildings in San Francisco. Of course they are working with $250-$400/sf budgets made possible by impossibly high rents, (We are stuck with $130- $200, roughly speaking),

A good architect can do much with little-- while the hacks do the same mediocre or worse buildings over and over (Novare?)-- BTW, 811 and JPX projects do break the (Atlanta) mold for design thoughtfulness and quality.

Looks like there's a plan for a 30 unit condo building at 626 Parkway Dr NE (corner of North Ave and Parkway Dr). It's been going through the re-zoning process for multi-family, but I don't recall seeing any proposals and there's nothing on the Atlanta devmap. Looks like it's from Sunspring Partners. Currently the site is a vacant former medical building.

I like that.

It would be nice if that gas station next door went away but that will probably never happen in our lifetimes.

I have previously posted that there was another redesign that removed the previously added office component. The schedule is currently to have permit drawings at the beginning of the year, though the start date is still TBD. I believe it will be presented to the DRC in November or December.

It looks like the westernmost crane for the 60 11th St project has been heightened. It also looks like it will be significantly taller than the 12th St sister project judging from the new height of the crane. Does anyone know if that's the case?

Also driving into work, I saw 3 trucks that looked like light construction/contractor trucks parked in the AMLI Arts Center property, with a few guys outside talking something over. That property has been gated off for a couple of weeks now, and I'm surprised we haven't seen the earth move yet.

I've been keeping an eye on this lot too, and I hope they break ground in December, as I've heard to be the plan.

I remember that design, and it was my favorite proposal besides Aquarius.

Also new retail tenant revealed at University House: Twisted Kitchen and looks like one of the retail spaces is available again:

No the Terwilliger-Pappas proposal was on the Exxon site.

There was a report that Terwilliger-Pappas abandoned the proposal because they couldn't reach a deal for the Exxon site. If there is a new 134-unit proposal for that site, it will be instead of rather than in addition to Solis Peachtree. Still that's a lot of good density around the village area.

Renders of Edgewood/ Candler MARTA station TOD.

The permitting process is underway for the major redevelopment at part of the Edgewood-Candler Park MARTA station.

MARTA will spend an estimated $2,450,000 on land development at 1471 La France Street NE in the Edgewood neighborhood, according to plans filed with the City of Atlanta this week. The land development will ready the area for construction of a new mixed-use development by Columbia Ventures.
The transit oriented development (TOD) is a joint venture by MARTA and Invest Atlanta that will utilize 6.4 acres currently part of the MARTA station. Most of the space will convert underutilized parking lots on the south side of the station.Groundbreaking is slated for early 2016 with Phase I planning to be completed by late 2017.

Would it kill them to include some bit of retail in these things...? I think the ball is being dropped on the mid rise developments. At least, outside of Midtown.
