I'm not an expert on design or architecture, but I think that's an impressive building and I really like it.

Drive Shack begins work at former Times-Picayune site

The demolition of the former Times-Picayune building has begun in order to make way for Drive Shack.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the $29 million golf entertainment complex is scheduled Thursday at 3800 Howard Ave. A grand opening has been projected for sometime next year.

The development will have 60,000 square feet of space and create over 350 jobs, according to a news release announcing the project in April.

The complex will be have 90 climate-controlled hitting bays, a gaming lounge, a full-service restaurant and bar, an outdoor lounge and several meeting and event rooms. It will be the company’s seventh location, with others in North Carolina, Virginia, Florida and Georgia.

An entity known as 3800 Howard Investors LLC owns the Howard Avenue site, with members including Joe Jaeger of MCC Real Estate and Barry Kern of Mardi Gras World. The other two owners include Arnold Kirschman, a real estate developer, and Michael White, a local businessman. The group purchased the property for $3.5 million in September 2016.

I am (not tooting my own horn or anything ) and I agree with you. Excellent building, great fusion of traditional proportions with modern materials and detailing. It's a 21st century building typology (podium apartment building) blended seamlessly into a historic neighborhood.

It looks especially good when seen next to the Julia Row...

Really, developers should be building variations on this design from the Bywater to the Irish Channel to Mid City and everywhere in between.

I agree that the change of materials and breaking up the bulkness makes it seem less masiive and it certainly blends in seamlessly.. looking at their website looks like 30 percent of the units are already leased and it doesnt open until august.. impressive

I just read that the Tampa Bay rays are going to be playing half the MLB season in Montreal Canda this might be Nola and Louisiana’s chance to bring MLB to the region.

It would be a beautiful site for a nice new MLB stadium being the anchor for the convention centers Trade District.

Also has anyone heard anything about some big video game company out of Boston opening an office here in Nola but were rethinking it due to the governor signing an abortion bill? Is that dead or are they still coming to town?

Is there really that much interest in bringing MLB to town? I wouldn't think so. Plus there's not much money around to build a brand new stadium with Superdome upgrades on the horizon. Being that MLB overlaps with the spring festival season and then summer when no one want to be outside, it seems like a tough sell. From the convention center's perspective, that would take up almost all of their land after accounting for the hotel and parking

The only way I could see it is if they were to try to upgrade and expand Zephyr Field. There's plenty of room to add more seating and the site would go unused otherwise.

I think you are right. I see more long term interest especially with changing demographics for a Major League Soccer team. If i were an investor that would be more appealing to me long term. Also if tampa bay rays are splitting season with somewhere colder , nola doesnt work. I do like the idea of some sort of sports venue on convention center land possibly above a new convention center hall or something
