A quiet and benign day weather-wise. Dry and calm with a light overcast sky.

Monday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 7 C, the low was 3 C.

As the storm moves offshore, we're now moving from the weakest rain bands into the heavier rain bands and then snow.

A snowfall warning has been issued for today and all schools in the city are closed. It actually won't be that bad - snow should start in the afternoon, and get quite bad through the evening commute, then end this evening. Totals up around 20cm, but that's going to be varied as it will be cement-style snow, with lots of melting, and there will surely be pockets with more snow than that, which doesn't melt, at higher elevations. Highways to the west of the city, especially, are going to be brutal - which is our main commuter belt (obviously, lol, there is no east of the city ).

Fingers crossed I get the day off - still waiting for word, though it usually comes before now lol

We are closing at 11. It's still just rain but it's getting colder. Won't be long now until it starts to stick.

EDIT: Home safe. Bus was packed. Wind is incredibly gusty - it does from tolerable to bracing yourself. Still just rain, but it's bloody miserable out there.

-2C in Moncton at 9 AM with light freezing drizzle.

We are still on the back end of that storm system from the weekend, and it is still windy out.

I fired up the snowblower last night to take care of some of the drifts on the driveway, but unbeknownst to me, a strip of flashing blew off the side of the house in the windstorm, landed in the driveway and was hidden by the snow. Of course I ran over it, and it fouled my impeller, and I can't get it out. Servicing will be required.

And, I will have to get the flashing replaced too. Fun times............

How do buses cope with steep slippery hills in St John's yet struggle in similar conditions in Montreal and Toronto?

St. John's bus drivers have balls of steel.

It's probably just tires.

The transition to snow has started. It's just below freezing at higher elevations, just above downtown. Lots of snow flying around the Logy Bay, Kenmount Road, etc. webcams, but still just rain downtown.

Yet another sunny & unseasonably warm day in Toronto. Currently at our predicted high of 3 at noon. That's 5 straight days of lots of sunshine and temps above 3 C.

Looks like tomorrow will be the last sunny day for a bit; forecast is mostly cloudy/rainy after that. But mild over the weekend.

7 day forecast: 3/4/7/9/4/1/1

The polar vortex seems to kick in right around the middle of the month - how strong it will be is yet to be seen. TWN doesn't seem to think it will be too extreme - predicting highs around -2 and lows around - 7.

Environment Canada has issued a new forecast for us, now anticipating just 2-4 cm of snow, or 10 cm at higher terrain. It had transitioned over to snow around 1pm but has since gone back to rain here at my place. Really getting off lucky with this one.

It just shifted now for me downtown. Still kinda mostly rain, but has a white tinge and is audible against the window now.

EDIT: And now it's moving through the air like snow, and is, of course, indeed proper snow. Already visible on parked car windshields.

TWN have been the ones hyping the 2nd half of February polar vortex. Their long range forecast shows it getting colder for sure, but nothing outrageous, cold side of seasonal. We'll see what happens.

These bulbs have been trying to come up for a week now, but a bunny keeps nipping them back.

Surprise, surprise. 0C (wind chill of -2) and sunny. I was able to predict the temperature without looking at models or anything better than the clowns at EC.

Low of -8C (wind chill -13) this morning.

The warmspot was Victoria (Gonzalez), BC at 10.0C.

Warmest low was Discovery Island, BC at 5.5C.

Ouch!

My little snow scoop that I push along the driveway is sounding better all the time!

Hope your snow blower gets well soon!

It was a nice day in Victoria - this beach is just around the corner from the Gonzales weather station:

Overcast with sunny breaks. Had to take a different bus route today and it was late and slow. I've really lucked out with my usual commute.

Cloudy and -1 at 10am.

Total snowfall for my place yesterday was a meager 1cm, if that. But boy was that ever frozen to the ground, basically had to scrape it off. Sheet of ice out there now, will have to throw down some salt when I get home.

-4C and partly cloudy in Moncton at 9 AM. Going up to 0C this afternoon. The next four days will all be above freezing. No significant snow in sight.

I see some rural roads in Cape Breton may not get plowed until the weekend. That will be a full week after the storm commenced. I don't care where you live, that delay in basic plowing is completely unacceptable!

When Moncton got it's 160 cm dumping in 1992, our street was plowed on the 2nd day following the storm. Given that amount of snow, a 2-3 day wait for plowing is understandable, but certainly not a fucking week!!!

I've been wondering how it's been going. They didn't seem to have been shut down for 8 days like us. I assume it's more suburban in layout so potentially easy to clear but I haven't heard anything about how it's been going until your post Moncton.
