That's just it... go to any major city, and what do you see? Tons of highrises, many of them no nicer than SkyCity. Considering it isn't our money, I think we can be gracious for what is a very creative design.

Yes, some projects are genuinely standout beautiful like L'avenue, but that's also the tallest project east of Toronto, so a notable exception. A favourite of mine is the YC Condo tower currently under construction in Toronto.

Maybe someday soon we get something THAT marquee in our downtown, but that doesn't mean anything less is undesirable.

It's like telling your neighbour his Porsche 911 is crap because we saw a ferrari once.

Further context:

What cities do we visit most? Toronto. Vancouver too perhaps.

Toronto has the 2nd most highrises in North America, behind New York City

3rd is Chicago, 4th is Mexico City.

5th and 6th are Vancouver and Montreal (Despite Vanvouver having less than 700,000 people, technically). These cities may be normal to us as Canadians but they are leaders, exceptions

So we are DEFINITELY spoiled when constantly exposed to these buildings in these places.

Forget the fact that it's WAY cheaper to build in Vancouver and Toronto... these markets are hot as hell right now also, anomalies on not just Canadian, but North American, perhaps global scale. We are on the opposite end and get quite a very nice project in SkyCity.

So yes, I'm grateful, butI believe it's a great design in its own right, context aside.

I'd say at minimum we can agree that such a building is quite nice. Much like 360 Main will look great despite being a straight wall of glass, not everything has to be grandios to be beautiful.

No one except the developer really knows. The rest of us are guessing. 50%? 75%? Who knows.

It is...okay, but nothing that will turn heads. I would much rather have the Pearl (Edmonton).

Interesting! This building would be such a game changer for Winnipeg if built. Location is kind of odd relative to the other main towers (Portage & Main vicinity) but makes sense given space constraints.

^ somewhat odd in comparison to the larger towers yes, but proposed on a surface lot that has been present for decades..lol..a problem common in Winnipeg's central core due to the size of the downtown area, we'll see where it goes in the upcoming year..

THEY AHVE SAID COUNTLESS TIMES THEY ARE ON SCHEDULE AND WILL BE STARTING CONSTRUCTION spring 2017

gosh darn it I'm tired of this nonsense for reals... if something changes to their timetable I'm sure they will announce it they are 50 percent sold and 8 months away from their start date..

The residential sales at SkyCity continue to garner traction, and the project is now 45% sold. There has been a great deal of interest in the pre-launch of the office space, and work is progressing on several large opportunities in the review process. The development team has begun the design and development phase and costing exercises in advance of starting full construction drawings in September. The project has already achieved excavation permits, and the full permit set will be applied for at the end of the year, with construction scheduled to begin in the spring of 2017.

The more isolated it is from the walkway system the better. It will only be a quick walk outside.

As lilwayne said, the renderings show a skywalk connection to PSB. Who knows if/how/when that will actually happen, but it would certainly be a big selling point for Fortress and I'm sure they'll pursue it.... there would be significant appeal in being able to walk indoors to work during the winter.

I remember seeing one of the renderings showing the skywalk and it was not angled, so it would have to be the PSB.
