Im not to big in the know how, but when he gives $ values to river landing, police station etc. These numbers must be included in stoons 800mil + building permits. I always though the city dose not issue these permits until the building is atleast being constrcuted?? Like 78mil for river landing, thats not even 100% gurantted to go ahead?

That 78 mil is for the river-side redevelopment, not parcel Y, if thats what you're alluding to.

Well you know the city will have to form a bolt replacement sub committee and then they'll have to have meetings about meetings for the bolt replacement procedure at which time they'll take it to city council who will then vote on it. After it is voted into council they will put out a tender to different construction companies who will then submit different proposals. and more disconcerting is why they sheared - ie the design failed!! I wonder what else was designed incorrectly, and I wonder if the the same engineers who designed this structure are the ones who inspected the sheared bolts and ok'd it?

Looking at it, those braces don't take much of the load but probably keep it from moving laterally, so it won't fall down "yet" but how much added fatigue and stress is there on the other connections?

Borrowing worth the cost

While it is proper that civic officials, councillors and citizens worry about the level of debt Saskatoon is taking on during a period of rapid expansion, it's just as important to worry about what the city would be like if it didn't do enough to accommodate that growth.

By all rational accounts, Saskatoon's debt levels are sustainable and responsible. The city is a long way from reaching its borrowing limit of $414 million and each time it took on debt it did so only after securing a predictable source of funds for paying it off.

This is in line with Saskatoon's history of only borrowing when it knows it can afford to do so. In the past, when complaints were directed at the city for its debt levels, it was typically focused on its reluctance to borrow at the expense of having inadequate facilities and infrastructure.

As the Canada West Foundation pointed out a decade ago in an op-ed in this paper, not all debt is bad and when reluctance to borrow means the city lacks the infrastructure and quality of life to accommodate expansion, the cost of parsimony is greater than the interest paid on debt.

Its unfortunate there's no local sandwich shop on Broadway. I would make the trip down much more frequently.

They're one in the same. Christie's Il Secendo. There is the original Christie's, but that's in Mayfair.

And you can sit... But you can get them to go. You pay up front and they call your number when your order is ready.
