Is this a joke: http://coyotes.nhl.com/

So, let me get this straight:

Show up for a game on a Saturday night (not a Tuesday, not a Wednesday school night)
Get 1 dollar pop,
Get 1 dollar beers, and
Get 1 dollar hotdogs

It's actually cheaper to take your family to the game than the local Denny's for supper...

But that's not all - The first 10,000 fans get a FREE Cotoyes Snuggie!
But who are they kidding, there won't be 10,000 fans, so some fans will get 2 snuggies...

Wow!! The Coyotes are turning to minor league promotions to get any fans into the stage. How sad is this. On the flip side, I understand the Leafs will continue with their $9 beer, $6 soda and $7 hot dogs promotion that they have been running all year.

Total Votes for this Question: 1562

The National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA) and CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada released of a poll of 318 players on a wide range of issues around the game on Sunday. Here are some of the results:

• The Edmonton Oilers finishes second (20 per cent) to the New York Islanders (27 per cent) in the category of “What team would you least like to play on?” Toronto finished fourth.

• When asked “Which Canadian city deserves an NHL franchise - Quebec City, Hamilton, Toronto or Winnipeg?” 53 per cent of players said Quebec City. Winnipeg got 25 per cent of the votes followed by a second Toronto team (16 per cent) and Hamilton (five per cent)

Interesting to note that over 50% of NHL players support Quebec City while only 25% supported Winnipeg. Could it be that the NHL'ers are more attracted to the Quebec City "nightlife"?

Or more of them are from Quebec and Southern Ontario.

Correct, less Manitobans taking part in the survey, means less votes. There are alot of Ontarians and French-Canadians in the NHL

Relative to population, there are lot more Prairie boys than Québécois in the NHL. There are roughly 50 to 60 players from Quebec, compared to 25 or so Manitobans and almost as many if not more from Saskatchewan. Two provinces which don't even have 1.5 million people each. Whereas Quebec has close to 8 million.

Yeah, per capita you are correct. Heres some figures of past and present players

On the right hand side click on province to see the breakdown.

True, but votes are not weighted by region, each player has one vote, so "per capita" doesn't really factor into the results except insofar as it means more prairie-born players get to vote than they would under a more normalized distribution. So knowing that there are twice as many players from Central Canada than Western players, and knowing that twice as many (50% vs 25%) voted for central Canada as the preferred choice, it follows that where players are from may be just as likely to factor in the result as what city is actually more deserving. So the survey is probably not that significant unless you can somehow determine how much bias there is towards a players birthplace/hometown.

Exactly, right on the money. Ontario/Quebec born players have family/familiarity etc. and this survey is nothing too surprising. Either way smaller markets, particularly Canadian ones embrace pro hockey players and I'm sure if you ask most ex Jets, they probably have pretty fond memories of playing in Winnipeg. Sure the night life/amenities are not New York/LA etc. but other than losing to Edmonton in the playoffs continually, I would hope they have favorable memories.

Besides, a big contract always helps in their location...

I grew up in Charleswood in the 80's and had many Jets players in the hood, their kids were all younger than myself so I didn't know many. But those were different days, wonder how many of today's players would live and raise families amongst their working class fans?

The latest round of comments, on hfboards, revolve around the plans for the block north of the MTS Centre. Now I'm aware, from here, that TNSE indeed has plans for this block (MTS Exhibition Hall for starters). However, some are hinting about the design of the hotel. Anyone have any shareable information?

And there's lots of vacant area, I'm sure MPI would be all for TNSE leasing a bunch of it to do something related to the MTS Centre.

What would they be doing with City Place that they can't do in the properties they already own on the opposite side of Portage?

city place is pretty dead especially the 2nd floor. I found this rumor on jetsowner.com so take it for what it's worth there.
